N.B. In Widgets- see in:
   https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10969499/widgets-systray.JPG

- there is a System Tray, but when installed in Panel it simply duplicates the one already there (though with no Dropbox or Network applet icons).

The cause for this has been explained by Nicolas Lécureuil in the dev mailing list. Keeping the bug report open nevertheless, could help tracking progress.

Maybe the legacy system tray will be back in Plasma 5.5.

just test cauldron which is under Plasma 5.5 Alpha.
Comment 5 Maurice Batey 2015-11-12 12:44:17 CET
Just done a huge Cauldron "--test" urpmi, but it threw up screensful of conflicts, mainly 'oxygen' items, so did not attempt an install.

Will try again later...

About oxygen icons conflict see bug 17137

Comment 7 Maurice Batey 2015-11-12 19:09:36 CET
Just done 556-package Cauldron update, but - right at the end - there were screensful of 'conflict' reports w.r.t. "breeze" things.

Also, when I boot the system ("Starting version 227"), it throws me into a Root state because "There has been a problem starting your graphical display."

Tried drakx11 several times, but it didn't like anything I offered, so my Cauldron install is dead in the water, I'm afraid...

Will keep trying Cauldron updates tomorrow.

> "There has been a problem starting your graphical display.

Probably an nVidia problem, as the same update on netbook* did not have agraphical display problem.

(However, all the old problems are still there, including no Systray...)
Comment 9 Maurice Batey 2015-11-15 13:05:49 CET
Now the nVidia Cauldron PC is back to 'normal', i.e. all old problems still there (e.g. no systray) but graphics usable.

One odd thing is that on the netbook's Cauldron, the apps icons have the same old image, whereas on the nVidia Cauldron there are several whose icon image has radically changed:

System Settings, VLC, Kfind, k3b, Konsole, Kmail, gparted, Kwrite, Libreoffice.

Those unchanged are: Firefox, Xsane, Kalarm, Konqueroe, MCC.
Comment 10 Rémi Verschelde 2016-01-19 11:02:47 CET
This is fixed in Plasma 5.5 in Cauldron as upstream added an "Xembed SNI Proxy" module to handle legacy system tray icons.

I know that the icons work fine for net_applet, hexchat and skype at least. If there were still an issue with e.g. Dropbox, please open an issue specifically against Dropbox as now issues will be software-specific.

I confirm that Dropbox's icon is now present in the systray and works normally.
