Description DariuszSki 2011-06-06 19:34:48 CEST
Description of problem:
After a successful beta then full install of Mageia 1 on my netbook, tried the
x86_64 install on my main machine.

Trying to start Firefox4, it crashes. After a number of attempts, it starts to the screen to "Restore Session", where no matter which option you chose (start new session or restore another page), Firefox crashes again. You cannot ever start Firefox normally.

Other browsers run okay.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Firefox4

How reproducible:
Try running Firefox4.

I had the same problem several times in the past and it usually helps to remove ~/.mozila/firefox if this is "old" with accumulated stuff from months or even years of use.

YMMV

Indeed, but I wouldn't remove the profile, just renaming the .mozilla dir to test (it has all my bookmarks and other important stuff, and it should work).

What display card do you have? which driver is used? 'lspcidrake -v'.

Did you try starting firefox from terminal? see if you get any useful error messages there.

Source RPM: firefox4 => firefox

Comment 3 DariuszSki 2011-06-06 22:15:11 CEST
It seems to be fixed, I took the first and more drastic option that Dick suggested of renaming and starting from scratch. I then re-added components from the old prefs.js to the new one that needed it.

Firefox now loads properly.

It seems, Mozilla has cr@p version and quality control between major versions, trashing every single major point install I've done of Firefox.

Anyway, I am closing the bug as fixed. Thanks for your help Dick and Ahmad.

Err.. I've been running the firefox nightly builds for ~1 year, same profile, maybe a tweak here and there, but it works...
