Description of problem: Upgrading from Mageia 4 to Mageia 5 on a ASUS Laptop with UEFI. The hard drive have Windows 8.1 with its original partitions, but borrowed space to install Mageia 4, Debian 7 and later 8, plus 3 extra partitions for /home, swap, and a spare partition. The grub2 install was either installed by mageia or debian, depending on which one was the latest to update the kernel. Before the upgrade to Mageia 5 the grub2 boot screen was from debian. When installing Mageia 4 I changed configuration to Bios and prior to upgrade to Mageia 5 I moved it back to UEFI. During the upgrade to Mageia 5 the installer accepted all my partitions and without any prompts just started the upgrade. At the end when asked to install the boot loader and finish the process it failed to install it. Tried few times and it did not work. Then powered off and started again the upgrade. It went only through configurations again without any further package installation and failed when installing the boot loader. I tried to boot Mageia 5 and to my surprise it worked (the boot screen still from debian) and with the new kernel. I possibly booted debian before that if that matters. I looked the file /boot/grub2/grub.cfg and it was empty. I run drakx - it detected there was no previous configuration - and installed a new boot loader. I did this booting with bios, not UEFI. Later I moved to UEFI and it is booting without any problems. The new boot loader is a flat blue screen and Windows and debian options were there with the first option being gnu/linux. This option is booting Mageia 5. I am reporting this just to provide a possible test scenario that might have a bug. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: As mentioned above the second time I started the DVD also gave the same error to install the boot loader. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Hope the description above gives the steps to reproduce. 2. 3. Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
Thanks for taking the time to report that. However, as you can read in the Errata, upgrade from Mageia 4 in BIOS mode to Mageia 5 UEFI is not supported, thus the failures. I advise to install a clean Mageia 5 UEFI instead of upgrading.

I believe everything is working as expected regarding a Mageia 5 UEFI upgrade. Besides having to run drakboot after the upgrade, I fixed the lack of grub theme during boot and the gnu/linux option (instead of Mageia) adding the following lines to /etc/default/grub GRUB_THEME="/boot/grub2/themes/maggy/theme.txt" GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=Mageia then running "update-grub2; grub2-install;" Perhaps not the ideal but a simple solution for this upgrade. Thanks again.
