Description Mike Arnautov 2015-06-23 16:59:40 CEST
Description of problem:
Having installed Mageia 5 from the x64 DVD image I am unable to boot it in either the 'normal' or the 'safe' mode. In the 'normal' mode one is left staring at the "dark bley sky" screen with the Mageia logo. In the 'safe' mode one enters the emergency mode. The machine still boots fine with Mageia4.

Journalctl -xb stops abruptly with

systemd[1]: Received SIGRTMIN+21 from PID 257 (plymouthd)

The video card is GeForce GT 220 and Nvidia driver got installed automatically.

We would need more logs in order to know what's happening...

OK, tell me what specifically you want to see and I'll do a new install on a spare partition.

The culprit appears to be the Nvidia driver handling, BTW. Installing with the Xorg driver and then installing the Nvidia driver and switching to it, made boot work.

Sorry that no one saw your request :-(

* Full "journalctl -xb" output would have been better, so not just the last line, and
* the matching Xorg log in /var/log/ (most likely /var/log/Xorg.0.log or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old, depending on when you grab the log)

Also, for classical (non-Live) installer bugs, we always need
* /root/drakx/report.bug.xz from that install, see
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Triage_guide#Traditional_installer

Please check https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Errata
NVidia is (when searching case insensitive) mentioned 22 times in that page

Glad you found a workaround :-)

If reading the Errata you see this is a duplicate of a bug mentioned there, then please close this report as duplicate of that bug number.

If it isn't a duplicate, but you cannot supply the needed information, then please close this report as RESOLVED-OLD

However, if you can supply the requested information, then please do and feel free to then remove "NEEDINFO" from the Keywords :-)

I believe dkms-nvidia-current rebuild is now forced on update. The workaround to this bug had been to remove dkms-nvidia-current and the re-install it, which forced it to build.
