Description of problem: Some DVB PCI cards require a frontend firmware (for example module tda1004x), those firmware are non-free and were not included in mandriva, but provided by PLF in package dvb-firmware-frontends (which seems outdated, but the firmwares still work with mageia 1). The DVB card (WinTV HVR 1100 in my case) doesn't work without the proper firmware. Other DVB related firmwares were also provided only in PLF and are probably worth integrating too in non-free (for example the package dvb-firmware-usb), as I don't see any DVB related firmware package in current mageia.
@ Renaud Sorry for responding so very late. I couldn't find anything like this in our current DVB packages. Because it is a package request, I have to set the severity to "enhancement request", but I do think a lot of users would like to have this package. Can you please put a link to the package in the URL field? The other package request should to into a separate report, to avoid confusion.

I added the URL to the "source" package from PLF, it contains most of the DVB related firmware. The only other DVB firmware I see in PLF is ttpci which was not in the main package because a patched and an unpatched versions were provided in two packages: ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/plf/mandriva/2010.1/non-free/release/source/dvb-firmware-ttpci-2622-1plf.src.rpm ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/plf/mandriva/2010.1/non-free/release/source/dvb-firmware-ttpci-sc_patched-2623-2plf2008.0.src.rpm I don't know if it is really important to provide the two different versions, as I don't have the hardware. From the description of the patched version, it is patched to support the sc plugin for VDR which, if I am not mistaken, is not even packaged in mageia. So I guess the unpatched version could be put back in the main package with the other firmwares.

set version to cauldron, because package requests will usually be done for cauldron first and then be available in next stable release

Once again I'm late to the party, but would like to add my support to including this package in the non-free or tainted repositories. It contains firmware needed to use the Air2PC tuner card, a first-generation ATSC TV tuner. Several of these cards were sold on eBay, advertised as compatible with Linux, and a number of USA users use it with MythTV. This firmware is available other places, but is a bit hard to find, especially for a novice.

Hi, (Asking in several package requests at the same time:) BugSquad has too few active members to take proper care of package requests, so we need to ask you to check some things yourself. Please check in http://madb.mageia.org/ whether this package was already imported in cauldron, or whether there's another package with the same functionality that you can use. If so, then please close this bug report, or, if the package isn't available in Mageia 5, change this report into a backport request. If it is not available in cauldron, and there is no alternative that you can use, then please confirm that you still need this software. Thanks, Marja
