Description of problem: Installed mageia RC, gnome 64 bit (from live), in virtualbox. Gnome is OK (after the first boot). I upgraded the to the latest cauldron release. I installed the complete task "cinnamon", but logging into cinnamon brings the writing: "cinnamon just crashed. You are currently running in fallback mode. Do you want to restart ?" Answering yes brings the same error. The fallback mode actually does not have menus or any other options (not even the log off), just a black desktop with some icons (I can add others). Cinnamon 2D lead to a black screen, without any possibility of interaction or message. After a few days, a new Cinnaon-task was present in Cauldron. Before upgrading, I removed the old, and deleted the configurations file in /home, but the problem remains Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Mageia 5 RC How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install cinnamon-task 2. try to login in normal cinnamon or cinnamon 2D Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:

I have seen that I can try to relaunch cinnamon from a terminale, with cinnamon-launcher. The error message is: libGL error: pci id for fd 9: 80ee:beef, driver (null) libGL error: core dri or dri2 extension not found libGL error: failed to load driver: vboxvideo So it is a libGL error. I wonder if it is a problem of packaging: since I am using a 64 bit version, shouldn't the libGL be lib64GL ?

It's a Virtualbox specific issue, because Cinnamon requires (AFAIK) 2D acceleration configured in the VM. I'll fix the errata.
Changed errata to: "In a virtual machine, Cinnamon may start in fallback mode if the VM has no 2D graphics acceleration support (mga#15991)"
(In reply to Rémi Verschelde from comment #4) > It's a Virtualbox specific issue, because Cinnamon requires (AFAIK) 2D > acceleration configured in the VM. I'll fix the errata. I just got this problem too. If 3D acceleration is enabled, Cinnamon crashes immediately. If it's disabled, it works, but is a bit slow as it's rendered by software only. I deleted my VM before seeing this bug, unfortunately, so I didn't try to enable 2D acceleration. :( Rémi: are you saying that Cinnamon works fine with 2D acceleration enabled in Virtualbox, or that Virtualbox must be fixed to allow 2D acceleration with Mageia?

This is not applicable under MGA8 anymore. Cinnamon starts fine. Tested with 64bit Virtualbox.
