Description of problem: Using Live CD; mageia-livecd-1-KDE4-europe1-americas-cdrom-i586.iso as a Live CD on a notebook computer with the following WiFi device installed: Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01) causes an infinite loop of these messages to be written to the system log files: Jun 2 17:22:39 localhost kernel: b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode5.fw" not found Jun 2 17:22:39 localhost kernel: b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43-open/ucode5.fw" not found Jun 2 17:22:39 localhost kernel: b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the correct firmware for this driver version. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mageia-livecd-1-KDE4-europe1-americas-cdrom-i586.iso How reproducible: Every time the Live CD is booted up. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot up the Live CD on a computer containing a Broadcom WiFi device which causes the B43 modules to be loaded. 2. Run the command "dmesg" from the command line and see the error messages. 3. Note: I am disconnected from any network (i.e. no ethernet connection).
The package containing the needed driver is currently being tested

Bug 923 got fixed, so this bug should be solved in next Mageia-live CD Changing the version of this bug report to cauldron, and target milestone to Mageia 2, because a new mageia 1 live CD won't be released
Version: 1 => CauldronTarget Milestone: --- => Mageia 2Source RPM: b43-openfwwf => b43-openfwwf draklive-install
assigning to maintainer of draklive-install

does anyone know whether this was solved in Mga2a2?

unless you decide to add the proprietary firmware (which to my knowledge has no redistribution license) onto the live cd, there is no way to use b43 on the live cd, other than a) bundling the windows driver and scripting the b43fwcutter, or b) going for the WL module from broadcom, or c) ignoring the license and including the fw <- this works best ;-) but I still hope i'm wrong and there is a straight forward solution... unfortunately b43-openfwwf is not what we all are craving for, with just one firmware file out of about a dozen (as extracted from the CS driver) but still much better than nothing! the whole is quite nicely explained here: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=239922

update: strictly speaking this bug might get closed, as the original reporter's bcm4311 is supported by b43-openfwwf with #923 resolved ;-) however all the other flavours of this family of chips will still not work...
and for mageia2, we have now compiled module, so all nonfree stuff are in the livecd. http://freeshell.de/~manu67/mageia/Mageia-2-beta3-LiveCD-GNOME-Europe1-Americas-x86_64-CD.lst Let's keep opened, we can close later if nobody response.

it seems like broadcom-wl-kernel is in the list, so b43 is not really needed I have one of those bcm4312 so once the live cd is ready and i have my dsl back i will try it.

(In reply to comment #11) > sorry my livecd doesnt boot due to #5518... > > will try with RC @ R Topics Can you please try with the Mageia 2 beta 3 LiveCD (if you don't get bitten by #5518)?
Tried Mageia-2-beta3-LiveCD-KDE4-Europe1-Americas-i586-CD.iso burned to a CD and booted up without problems. Checked the wireless connection using the Network Center applet. It works. I successfully connected to my wpa2 wireless router. The b43 error messages still appear in dmesg, but only once :) So again, the wlan connection now works for me using when using Mageia as a Live CD. Thanks
