I'm testing Mageia 5 RC3 586 on a AMD Sempron 2300+ PC. A. Xfce complains it cannot start its own notification because there's another active (this seems the same as bug 12480). Steps: 1. Get Mageia 5 with Xfce and KDE installed. 2. Install Mate. 3. Read error dialog at Xfce start. B. After installing Mate, Firefox no longer open folders with Dolphin, but uses Caja -- even though Dolphin is set as file manager in KDE's configuration "Standard Applications". Is this somehow related to 4461 ? Steps: 1. Get Mageia 5 with Xfce and KDE installed. 2. Install Mate. 3. Open Firefox. 4. Search with Google for some file (e.g.: cheatsheet filetype:pdf). 5. Download said file. 6. After download finishes, click on FF's down arrow and on little folder icon to open folder with downloaded file. Expected: Dolphin would open the desired folder. Result: Firefox tries to open Caja. Actually that is not working now, as per bug 15577 . The net result is that FF lost a functionality and longer opens the download folder. Additionally, as Mageia 4 effectively open Caja with success, it was observed another problem: Alt-Tab to Desktop changes from KDE to Mate (and back)! This "symptom" is yet to be tested in cauldron, as the machine with Mageia 4 is a production one and cannot be used for testing. C. Log into KDE, call "mate-appearance-properties" (with the intention to change the appearance of certain apps); regardless of the result, a new daemon is kept running: mate-settings-daemon. Short ouput: ============================================================ [zz@localhost ~]$ mate-appearance-properties [zz@localhost ~]$ ps -ef | grep mate zz 26077 1 1 15:12 ? 00:00:00 /usr/libexec/mate-settings-daemon zz 26126 18995 0 15:12 pts/1 00:00:00 grep --color mate [zz@localhost ~]$ ============================================================ I know there's a KDE module to adjust gtk apps appearance, but I was specifically testing interaction between desktops and found that. Sorry for the lack of structure, but a greater picture emerges of desktops not playing the good neighbor one to another. The whole thing might have to do with freedesktop.org standards not being followed... Some problems possibly happened at install time (or later, when Mate was added); other problems might be occurring at run time -- like running one application and have a daemon starting or running Caja and desktop behavior being modified. Thanks for any insight.
Please file separate bugs for separate issues, it makes easier to follow each one.

The fix for the issue A can be found from url mentioned in bug 12480 comment 4: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=484945#c33 I'll fix mate-notification-daemon and make request for a freeze push.
(In reply to Jani Välimaa from comment #1) > Please file separate bugs for separate issues, it makes easier to follow > each one. I agree with this. Please open seperate bug reports with your issues. Also, please clarify which issue is related with Mageia 4 or Cauldron. Thanks.

Opened bug 15601 for part B in Mageia 5 RC3.
Bug 15602 opened for part A in M5 RC3.
Filed bug 15603 for part C in Mageia 5 RC3.
Added bug 15604 for Mageia 4. Also, what happen to this bug now that it hass been split in several?
(In reply to Renato Dali from comment #7) > Added bug 15604 for Mageia 4. > Thanks for filing the separate reports :-) > Also, what happen to this bug now that it hass been split in several? It should already have been closed, as it was invalid with all the mixed issues ;-) If you want to keep track of unwanted desktop interferences, you can open a tracker for that e.g.: [TRACKER] unwanted interferences between Desktop Environments and put the 4 bugs you just filed in its "Depends on:" field, just add the numbers of the bugs with commas between them. Closing this one as RESOLVED - MOVED, because the issues were moved to 4 new reports Not sure "MOVED" is meant for that, though, but it sounds nicer than "INVALID" :-)

Thanks, Marja. I think "MOVED" is apt, because splitting something is kinda like moving its parts separately.
