Installed without problems. mga4 32bit iso installed on the vm and updated OK as well (750+ packages). The only problem there was the perennial one of losing the mouse pointer. It is captured OK at the start of the install but soon becomes restricted to a small window beyond which control returns to the host. It is a real fiddle to make any progress and at times the tab key is required to get anywhere. This has happened on all my vm installs so I think it needs airing in the forums. Anyway, so far the vm seems completely functional - no problems with mouse pointer capture once the new installation is booted.
No sign of attached USB3.0 drives. Is something else required, like the Oracle package?
Installed Stellarium and tried to launch it. This throws a segmentation fault after: "libGL error: failed to load driver: vboxvideo" It expects to find OpenGL 2. There are entries in /var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/ for the 3.12.8 kernel and 3.14.32 the current kernel. vboxvideo_drv.so appears in /usr/lib/dri and /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers. Stellarium attempts to open a display window then segfaults. The diagnostics say that the OpenGL2 renderer cannot be found. It falls back on OpenGL and fails. Stellarium works fine on a 64-bit VM on another machine - this VM is 32-bit. This may all be irrelevant as far as the update is concerned.

On the host side it seems fine, but I updated dkms-vboxadditions, x11-driver-video-vboxvideo, and virtualbox-guest-additions in my Mageia 4 VM and X11 doesn't use the proper resolution, like the kernel module's not available. This is the same thing that happens if I install a kernel without its -devel package and DKMS can't compile it. In this case though, lsmod shows vboxguest and vboxsf loaded, and dkms status shows: vboxadditions, 4.3.22-1.mga4, 3.14.32-desktop-1.mga4, i586: installed

Sorry everyone, I've definitely confirmed that is broken on i586. I downgraded the RPMs in the VM to 4.3.20 and everything was fine, back up to 4.3.22 and get the small screen size. I compared /var/log/Xorg.0.log (4.3.22) to /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old (4.3.20) and noticed some things. Where it prints the ModeLines, 4.3.20 started with a VBoxInitialMode and two VBoxDynamicMode modelines, which are missing in 4.3.22. The Output went from being called FBOX0 to VGA-0. Where it does Printing probed modes for output whatever, in 4.3.20 it showed first 1440x1050 (the correct resolution). For 4.3.22 it shows first 1024x768 (listed first and selected), 1600x1200, and 1440x1050. In both cases it was followed by 4 lower resolutions. Probably related to the selected resolution, but the physical size went from 380 x 277 to 270 x 203. While this suggests that the correct resolution may still be selectable, it isn't selecting it by default, and I've never had this problem before. The only times it selected 1024x768 normally was when I booted a kernel with no -devel package installed so the dkms couldn't compile the kernel module.

This seems familiar to Bug 14974 with x11-driver-video-vmware in Cauldron. Anyway, as I've seen that the desired resolution is possible, as expected, I found that I could get it to use it if I used drakx11 to configure 1440x1050 as the resolution, rather than using Automatic. This is certainly a regression, but probably just an upstream bug we can't do anything about (unless someone reports it upstream). Thomas, if you want to just add a note to the advisory that people will probably have to reconfigure their resolution settings, we could validate this. We probably should get this out before the Mageia 5 release candidate because of the kernel 3.19 support.
Note that this issue affects Cauldron VMs too.
I just noticed that 4.3.24 is available upstream. I guess we'll want to update to that.
Ok, reading a source diff between 4.3.22 and 4.3.24 shows upstream really borked xorg server detection / vboxvideo code in 4.3.22, something that is cleaned up in 4.3.24, so I will push it to Cauldron and mga4

(In reply to Thomas Backlund from comment #23) > updated to 4.3.24 that should behave better... Switched back to Automatic resolution and...it's exactly the same as 4.3.22 :o( So it isn't any better, but there is a workaround (explicitly set the resolution with drakx11), so as long as we noted it in the advisory, we could release it. This is just unfortunate. Other than that, it works fine on both the host and guest side, Mageia 4 i586.

(In reply to William Kenney from comment #27) > Package(s) under test: > kernel-desktop-latest > virtualbox vboxadditions-kernel-desktop-latest dkms-virtualbox > virtualbox-guest-additions virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest > x11-driver-video-vboxvideo > nvidia-current-kernel-desktop-latest Your report is confusing. It doesn't look like you tested a Mageia 4 guest, but you listed a bunch of guest packages mixed with host packages. Hosts get virtualbox and dkms-virtualbox (or virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest), and guests get virtualbox-guest-additions, dkms-vboxadditions (or vboxadditions-kernel-desktop-latest), and x11-driver-video-vboxvideo.
Here's what I do when I test Virtual Box. It may be overly complex but it's what I've done for quite some time. I start with a clean drive: http://www.killdisk.com I then use the latest M4.1 CI installer in this case: Sat Jun 14 23:11:58 CEST 2014 Mageia-4.1-x86_64-DVD.iso 96006ee03356e827dcfd02b060a7 written to a USB stick. So I start with a clean install then update that to the latest updates. That takes quite some time. I then make the install of Vbox, reboot the system, make sure the nivida driver is still working then open a client in this case it's M5RC Live-CD i586. The client should open with no errors or Vbox crashes and reach a properly sized desktop. So now I have an up-to-date M4.1 with Vbox in it's present state. The listing of the files I check for are what I have seen come into play as Vbox gets updated. I then enable the update-testing repo then using the MCC make sure all of the update files I monitor get installed and once that's completed I reboot the system. I note that the nvidia driver is retained. I then launch the M5RC Live-CD i586 client again and make sure it gets to a working desktop again with a properly sized desktop. I test an M5 client. I can just as easily test an M4 Live-CD client if that is needed.
Thanks for the explanation. That explains why you failed to catch the guest breakage in a previous update attempt (4.2.18 in mga3 IIRC, which was aborted and we bumped it to 4.3.10 instead). So yes, for virtualbox updates, both the host and guest side of the update needs to be tested.
There are so many moving parts in a package like Vbox that more then one person needs to test. I've found with Vbox one slip and the computer may not even boot and you have to go back to a previous kernel. We've had several times where Vbox and the kernel are updated almost or at the same time and that can cause lots of problems.
Yes it's certainly a package like the kernel that calls for multiple tests to make sure nothing's missed. I'm just trying to make clear that OK tags shouldn't be added unless both the host and guest sides are at least tested. This was quite a bit of work when we were still supporting Mageia 3 in addition to Mageia 4, because of course my host machine at home where I do my virtualboxing only runs one version of Mageia. I had to do the Mageia 4 host tests here (as well as the guests tests, as usual) and then do the Mageia 3 host tests on a machine at work. Quite cumbersome! I guess we won't have to worry about that too much for mga4/mga5 since it doesn't look like we're going to release mga5 until mga4 is almost EOL :P (kidding, I hope). Certainly virtualbox testing shouldn't cause your machine to not boot, nor should testing with an updated kernel complicate things too much (you just have to install both). When they're being updated near the same time they have to be done together because the kmod packages have to be built against the current kernel. If we got rid of the kmod packages and only had the dkms ones, that would alleviate that requirement, but it would require users to have compilers installed on any hosts or guests on which they wanted to use our packages.
MGA4-64 on HP Probook 6555g KDE. No issues on installing VirtualBox. Used MGA4-32 DVD to install this in VirtualBox. Choose Dutch as language for it. Had the same mouse problems as Len reported in Comment 2. Once installed , the VM runs OK. One remark: I always switch off Desktop Effects in System Settings. On a real machine installation this has always immediate effect, but on the VM, I had to restart to make this setting effective. As none of these problems occur when I install another distribution (as mentioned in Comment 25) I consider these Mageia issues, not VirtualBox.

Same as 4.3.22 and 4.3.24. Defaults to 1024x768 if you have it set to Automatic, but you can get the correct resolution if you explicitly set it. Otherwise things work fine for both host and guest Mageia 4 i586.

Yeah, I think we have to live with it for now as it's still usable, and only annouying that you have to set the resolution manually if you want bigger than the default.

Looks like it. Please make a note of it in the final advisory. I'll OK it for i586.

Updated advisory: This update provides a virtualbox maintenance update, fixing various bugs and adds full support for the 3.19 series kernels used as release kernel in upcoming Mageia 5. Note! On some systems the display resoulution in the virtual machine resets back to default screen size so you might have to reconfigure the screen resolution after installing this update. Thanks Luc. They were missed from the advisory. Adding them now.
Advisory updated. Thomas, could you push those two please. Thanks
Be careful, some of the packages (*latest-4.3.26-1) are not available anymore in core/updates_testing (because of kernel update 3.14.37): vboxadditions-kernel-desktop586-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.i586.rpm vboxadditions-kernel-desktop-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.i586.rpm vboxadditions-kernel-server-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.i586.rpm virtualbox-kernel-desktop586-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.i586.rpm virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.i586.rpm virtualbox-kernel-server-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.i586.rpm vboxadditions-kernel-desktop-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.x86_64.rpm vboxadditions-kernel-server-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.x86_64.rpm virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.x86_64.rpm virtualbox-kernel-server-latest-4.3.26-1.mga4.x86_64.rpm
Fixed, Thanks Luc for spotting it.
