Description Chris Denice 2015-02-02 10:39:15 CET
Description of problem:

This week-end at Fosdem, we tried more or less all window managers at the stand and someone requested kde5. On install of the meta package task-plasma5, the kdm login screen is defaulted to something which is no longer mageia (background screen is lost and login windows changed).

It seems that plasma overrides one of these package:
mageia-kde4-config-common
Default-kde4-config

Moreover, reverting to kde4 does not restore the default mageia settings and the kdm login windows remain as for plasma even though kde4 is reinstalled.

Cheers,
Chris.

KDE4 and Plasma5 are known to not be co-installable, although maybe there should be some explicit conflict preventing what you experienced.

If you delete the files in /var/lib/mageia/kde4-profiles/*/share/config/kdm and reinstall your Default-kde4-config package you should be OK again.

As per above comment, Luc, Nicolas, Plasma is available in the desktop choice, it should be removed no ?
Comment 3 Sander Lepik 2015-02-08 13:51:44 CET
Why is KDM's conf installed at all? Plasma 5 should use sddm, not KDM.

plasma shouldn't be a choice anymore.

Can anyone confirm this ?
Comment 5 Samuel Verschelde 2015-05-03 21:34:14 CEST
It was in netinstall last time I tested (a month ago?), but only there.
Comment 6 Samuel Verschelde 2015-05-03 21:35:00 CEST
This should be mentioned in Release Notes too, if not done already.
Comment 7 Rémi Verschelde 2015-05-03 21:36:04 CEST
I can confirm that Plasma is not proposed by the classical installer anymore.

Does that fix this issue, or can the issue arise when one installs KDE4 first and the task-plasma5?
Comment 8 Nicolas Lécureuil 2015-05-03 21:37:43 CEST
no need as this is removed :

http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages?view=revision&revision=819905

we will work harder on plasma5 for mga6

I look for the kdm issue now

Yes, that seems to be the case. Just tested yesterday on a fresh Mageia5rc KDE4 install. Installing task-plasma5 removes certain KDE4 packages and as a result KDM switches it's theme to Elarun (KDE default theme for KDM?) but otherwise retains it's functionality. When Plasma5 is removed and KDE4 restored eg by installing task-kde4-minimal, then the KDM theme remains Elarun and could be switched back to Mageia's using KDE System Settings application.
So maybe it is not a bug at all?
