Description of problem: This applies to a Dell XPS1780M laptop only as far as I can test. After a full install from the classic DVD iso on a USB3 stick there does not appear to be a graphics driver installed. From the continuing disk activity it looks like the system is live after reboot but the screen displays nothing but alternating coloured panels, black/R/G/B. At no point does the installer issue the usual query regarding availability of a proprietary driver for the video card. Selecting nvidia series 8100 and later in the configuration stage does no good either although that comes up as the default selection. This is a regression which plagued mga4 as well but it was possible to specify the xdriver at boot time and have a working system. Installed five times and specified xdriver=fb/nouveau/vesa/vga on four reboots. On the last installation I specified xdriver=nvidia before the installation. None worked. Also, when the coloured panels display it is impossible to switch to a console. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mga5-beta3 How reproducible: Every time. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install from iso on USB 2. Reboot with or without specifying an xdriver 3. Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
Sorry, the hardware is XPS M1730. And it is 64bit with Legacy (CSM) boot.

This appears to be a duplicate of bug #15171.
It ran nouveau instead with bug 15171 and never offered to install the proprietary driver (as the packages were missing) so could possibly be different. Try new beta 3 ISOs and close this one if it's ok.

With the latest DVD iso it still does not work. It may fall back to nouveau but my impression is that it does not write things like HorizontalSync rates into the xorg.conf file. (I noticed that when I tried to specify a driver for an older series of cards.) Maybe that is something to do with the edid for the monitor. Whatever it is it invalidates any attempt to bring up a console.

Also have similar rc7.2 & rc7.3 for fglrx and other kmod packages. rc7.2 seems redundant as matching kernels are not present.

and dkms-nvidia340 missing. Bit of a mish-mash. How much an of this affects this bug though I'm unsure but this one may have something to do with it.
(In reply to claire robinson from comment #8) > Also have similar rc7.2 & rc7.3 for fglrx and other kmod packages. > > rc7.2 seems redundant as matching kernels are not present. yeah, bcd does not handle multiple versions of prebuilt kmods nicely. I've cleaned the repos so after next repo sync there will be no old packages anymore.
Len, can you add lspcidrake -v for that card
Here it is Thomas: Card:NVIDIA GeForce 8100 to GeForce 360: NVIDIA Corporation|G84M [GeForce 8700M GT] [DISPLAY_VGA] (vendor:10de device:0409 subv:1028 subd:019b) (rev: a1)
In the latest round of isos these display issues seem to have been resolved for my hardware.

Yep. Close it. Thanks Samuel.
