Description André DESMOTTES 2015-01-22 09:43:07 CET
Description of problem:
There is a new Wiki Documentation Main page and the links in MageiaWelcome should be updated
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Documentation

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
mageiawelcome-0.8.8-1.mga4.src.rpm

Reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
Comment 1 Marja Van Waes 2015-01-22 10:21:42 CET
What about:

* Letting the "Documentation" link direct to the same http://www.mageia.org/en/doc/ page as before, but changing the name of the button to "Official Documentation"

* Adding an extra link in the "DOCUMENTATION" list, called
"Documentation Overview" and linking it to
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Documentation

* Anything else?

What about simply pointing "Newcomers Howto" to https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Documentation ?

and keep "Documentation" pointing to official doc (http://www.mageia.irg/en/doc/)

This way, we have no new string to translate.

WDYT?

It is indeed better to avoid new strings to be translated, and with your proposal, each list would still contain 4 items, which is better, too.

However, I think the "Newcomers Howto" link would be nice to keep as it is.

What about letting the "Documentation" link direct to the new https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Documentation page

Much of the documentation in the wiki was written by Documentation Team members, so my idea to have a separate link for "Official Documentation" was maybe wrong (Or "Official" could still be added to "User manuals in many languages:" in the wiki page instead).
Comment 4 André DESMOTTES 2015-01-22 13:34:27 CET
I think we should clearly separate official documentation and wiki documentation (everybody can write in the wiki and everything isn't checked).
We have currently three links to documentation, I suggest to have one to official documentation (where Mageia get involved), one to newcomers (they are our target) and one to the wiki documentation.
That means, IMHO:
Newcomers Howto: nothing changed (except, later on, a better dedicated page)
Documentation: as said Marja call it "Official Documentation", I think it is important.
Wiki: in the support column, change the link for https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Documentation.
Comment 5 Marja Van Waes 2015-01-22 14:02:45 CET
CC'ing i18n, because changing "Documentation" to "Official Documentation" would mean work for translators.

I suppose there is enough time, because we'll have a 5beta3, correct?

I agree.

Is the term "Official" significant? It could be "Mageia's tools manuals"? But this could imply other changes.

I think that this link can be labeled "Contributive documentation" (corrector said me this word is not recognized :/)

Please, Daniel, do whatever you thing is the best, doing nothing being the worst.
Comment 8 Daniel Napora 2015-02-05 11:57:42 CET
Sorry for long delay.
Documentation button is pointing now to https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Documentation as Marja suggested in comment 3.
I committed to git and changed version to 0.8.11.
Can someone with SVN access repack it and ask to push?
I have no rights to do it.

Just committed the new package to SVN, I suppose it is one of those packages that can be pushed by any packager during freeze.

@ Rémi

Could you please try whether you can push new MageiaWelcome?

Btw, rpmlint complained that the "GPL+" license is invalid, does it exist?.
Comment 11 Marja Van Waes 2015-02-05 17:03:30 CET
Rémi just pushed version 0.8.12, with Daniels fix for the Documentation button and with a License file (GPLv3)

I suggest we wait for comments before pushing the same changes to Mageia 4 updates_testing

Hi, may a different link be managed depending on the locale/language as for the text itself?

If so, the following links would be used for French:

Page 1 / Documentation:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_:_Notes_de_version-fr
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Errata-fr
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Guide_du_d%C3%A9butant-fr

Good idea. It is too late for MGA5, but I will do that for MGA6.
Comment 14 Samuel Verschelde 2015-06-02 09:10:08 CEST
Is it wanted that all these french pages are in the english wiki (en/)?

There is only one wiki, the English one, as long as the multilingual module is not working.

Hi,
Couldn't the package be updated even after MGA5 release?
Users running an update during the install would then get the correct language.
Also any user updating an existing installation could benefit from this update.
Thanks,

Indeed, it could and it should. That's what MGA5TOO in the whiteboard means, actually :)

The translation of links for specific languages is done yet in 1.3 version, already in cauldron.
Should be pushed now to mga5.
Comment 20 Stéphane Couturier 2016-05-20 00:12:12 CEST
Hi,

Asking again while preparing Mageia 6 release this time:

The following links currently point to English pages while the French translation do exist.

Could you please update these?

Page 1 / Documentation / Release Notes:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_6_Notes_de_version-fr

Page 1 / Documentation / Errata:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_6_Errata-fr

Page1 / Support / Wiki:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Accueil-fr

Page4 / RPMDrake:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Gestion_des_logiciels-fr#Installer_et_supprimer_des_logiciels

Page4 / URPMI:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/URPMI-fr

The other links already refer to the French version of the pages.

Thank you!

Some of those links can already be translated, see the French translation for mageiawelcome on Transifex.

I believe the last 3 links can't be translated yet though.
Comment 22 papoteur 2018-10-28 22:31:46 CET
All links I have checked are translatable.
Thus I close this report.
Thanks all.
