Tangogps is an easy to use, fast and lightweight mapping application for use with or without GPS. It runs on any Linux platform from the desktop over eeePC down to phones like the Openmoko Neo. By default tangoGPS uses map data from the Openstreetmap project. Additionally a variety of other repositories can be easily added. http://www.tangogps.org/

@ Richard Sorry, we don't have the package yet.

@ Marja I have assigned this to myself - I have just passed this on for review and it should appear in Cauldron in a day or so if my mentor accepts it ;)

@ Barry Great, Barry, thanks :D
(In reply to comment #0) TangoGPS is now in Cauldron core/release and will be included in Mageia 2. It will appear in the main menu under Education -> Geography/Sciences Please test (in Cauldron) and report any problems here. We also have Viking in Cauldron which appears to offer similar functionality - a review by a user or two would be useful in making the descriptions of these packages more meaningful in the future - please post any comments here. Thanks - enjoy!

I've also imported foxtrotGPS [1]. [1] http://www.foxtrotgps.org/

Thank you for your work, I don't run cauldron but will try them out on Mageia 1 if they will install without problems. I'm glad to see Foxtrotgps,as it seems that Marcus Bauer may have abandoned Tangogps as there have been no updates for well over a year and his website is now down. Viking seems to be a good app but it is overkill for my use. Tangogps/Foxtrotgps is relatively simple and lends itself to the small screen of my EeePC 701 with touchscreen.
Created attachment 989 [details] Output from konsole.
Sorry, my comments on the above attachment went AWOL. Tangogps crashes at random on my Cauldron install (Set up to test this package). Sometimes within minutes sometimes it will run for an hour or more. Foxtrotgps does not appear to suffer these crashes. FWIW I think that since Tangogps appears to have been forked to Foxtrotgps which is under active development, that the former be dropped from the repo and only Foxtrotgps included. The attachment is the output from running in Kosole. Note that the crash was some minutes after the last mouse drag action.

I agree. When I imported TangoGPS I was not aware of FoxtrotGPS. The fact the site was down should have been a clue, but I assumed that was a temporary situation :( I will somehow get it removed. Thanks for the feedback.
OK that is taken care of, it will be removed. Changing to WONTFIX. For tangogps use foxtrotgps.
