I also had the same problem - KDS-Live fails to boot. Also, all the usual-suspects fail in writing the Mageia filesystem to a USB stick in a workable form - netbootin, Xboot and 2 M$ variants were the ones I tried. Asking for assistance on Mageia's forum resulted in the suggestion (and link) to check Mageia's wiki page. Here it suggests using the Linux 'dd' command to write the filesystem to USB, which it does speedily - but this also fails! What DOES work is the other suggestion there - the 'mandriva-seed' application! The link to this piece of bloat-ware (26meg uncompressed!) on the wiki page is dead but I managed to google the M$ version which with the aid of a VirtualBox'ed XP, I succeeded in producing a bootable Mageia USB drive. That said, considering only one out the half a dozen 'solutions' - having used them many times in the past with other Linux variants - I tried ended up working, the problem must surely be seen to lie with Mageia. I hope this issue is resolved when version 2 comes along...

Barry, Olaf: are you able to boot the classical installer DVD? If so, can you check the result of this command in a console? (using Ctrl+Alt+F2) "lspcidrake -v | grep IDE"

Sorry for the above mistake (the double post). Is there aw ay to delete one of them? Preferably No 5.
No (at least not without editing manually the DB). Next time, attach such big quotes as: 1) it will be mangled 2) it makes the bug reports unreadable We would need the whole messages when failing, not the couple lines you quoted in your initial message
(In reply to comment #8) > > We would need the whole messages when failing, not the couple lines you quoted > in your initial message Thierry, maybe you missed the screenshots in the link in #5 ?
Ping Is this any closer to being resolved?
Can any of the people encountering this problem try adding the kernel parameter "divider=10" to see if that solves the problem.

(In reply to comment #11) > Can any of the people encountering this problem try adding the > kernel parameter "divider=10" to see if that solves the problem. Makes no difference that I can see. Boot hangs at splash after the progress completes. Accessing tty1 with CTRL/ALT/F1 shows repeating messages to the effect that /dev/tty2,3,and 4 IIRC are "file not found". Another message was that /proc was also "file not found" which I think appeared when using CTRL/ALT/F12. I can photograph the screens if it is likely to help.
Adding the parameter "divider=10" makes no difference here, also. The problem remains (exactly the same as before).
On my 6 year old single core 32 bit celeron, it takes a little over 15 minutes from start to usable (albeit slow) kde desktop. In the VirtualBox settings, under system, I specified Chipset ICH9 all checkboxes blank except UTC. Under display, set the video memory to 128MB. 3d acceleration not selected. In the kernel options I added noacpi nolapic divider=10
This bug still applies with mga2 Alpha1 KDE (Europe1 & Americas) iso on a USB stick. Not yet tried a CD, but nothing seems to have changed regarding this issue since mga1 release. The Mandriva 2011 iso boots OK from either USB or DVD on the same hardware with no special kernel parameters.

Created attachment 1132 [details] Screen output during boot A night's work - a collage of 9 images! Hope it is useful ;) This is using the mga2 alpha1 x86_64 Live CD (on a real CD).
Thanks! Does it work better if you add "noacpi" at the kernel command line from gfxboot? See bug 3385 and bug 3334

It seems to be looking for a usbhid module to insmod - I thought it may have been for my wireless usb mouse, but it's the same without the mouse dongle. Screenshot attached.

That's weird, it seems it can't create your disk devices because of missing space in the initramfs.
Still can't boot any Mageia 1 live CD, no matter what I try in boot parameters. The same with Mageia 2 Alpha1. No Joy! But Mageia-2-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-Europe1-Americas-i586-CD.iso works!!! At last, I can boot with a live cd. I didn't have to write any boot parameter. Also, it didn't take too long to login to KDE, Î could say it was fast enough (comparing to other distro's live CDs, or Mandriva's 2010.1 or 2010.2). Thanks for that, and I hope now it's more easy for you to find what was wrong with Mageia 1 Live CDs.
(In reply to comment #20) > That's weird, it seems it can't create your disk devices because of missing > space in the initramfs. Well, after reading #21 I decided to try Alpha2 - same version, but it's no different here. Same errors as in previous posts. I did try (on a hunch) disabling the hard drives in BIOS before booting the CD, but it still hit the same errors. I have yet to boot a Mageia live CD on this machine. :(
Well good news - the KDE mga2 beta3 x86_64 Live CD does boot on the same system (from usb) so something was fixed. It suffers from bug 4999 but that's a different issue. :)
