Description Ole Reier Ulland 2015-01-14 22:30:38 CET
1. kernel-desktop-3.14.24-1.mga4 works just fine on motherboard ABIT-AT8

2. kernel-desktop-3.14.27-1.mga4 does not work on motherboard ABIT-AT8

2.a. Most commonly all looks fine until:

[ OK ] Started LSB: Adaptive readahead daemon.
_

Then the cursor is just blinking and the only thing to do is to enter ctrl-alt-del to restart.

2.b. Twice I have seen all looks fine until:

[ OK ] Started LSB: Bring up/down networking.
_

Then the cursor is just blinking and the only thing to do is to enter ctrl-alt-del to restart.

2.c. Twice I have seen all looks fine until:

[ Failed ] A start job is running for LSB: Wait for the hotplugged ...
.
.
.
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
_

Then the cursor is just blinking and the only thing to do is to enter ctrl-alt-del to restart.

I have started with desktop 3.14.27.-1.mga4 about 10 times, but never successfully.

Yes, NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000.

This is likely a known issue where occasionally depmod isn't being run.

Boot into the working kernel and run "depmod -a" as root, then see if it works.
Comment 4 Ole Reier Ulland 2015-01-15 20:57:05 CET
I did so then restarted with the kernel...27... twice.

First time all looks fine until:

[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.

Second time all looks fine until:

[ OK ] Started Authorization Manager.

Then the cursor is just blinking and the only thing to do is to enter ctrl-alt-del to restart.

It perhaps needs to specify the kernel to check when it's not booted into it directly Ole. Try with..

depmod -a 3.14.27-desktop-1.mga4
