Description Martin Volf 2014-12-30 17:22:37 CET
Description of problem:
Since a big update of KDE 4.12.5 (29-10-2014) some users (including me) reported an issue with sound volume when the headphones is plugged and unplugged, then is no sound from kmix anymore. Sound present in headphones when it is plugged again. Still no sound after reboot of the system.

To have volume, it can be adjusted in alsamixer â select your sound card â adjust Speaker (but this I have to do again after new boot)

WORKAROUND:
===========
I have found a solution from https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=59217#c11

$ pactl set-sink-port alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo analog-output-speaker

After no issue anymore!

FYI: The patch (comment #2) from link is already included in MGA4.

Comment 3 Samuel Verschelde 2015-09-21 13:19:33 CEST
Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't
able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and
change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions,
select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].

Comment 4 Rémi Verschelde 2015-09-22 18:26:19 CEST
It is to some extent still valid in Mageia 5, or at least I'm experiencing something similar (and have been since I got my laptop, so at least Mageia 4).

Assigning to pulseaudio maintainer Colin, but CCing the packagers taking care of orphan packages also because we haven't heard from Colin recently.

To people experiencing the bug, do you still experience it in cauldron?

I believe that this issue is best resolved if the right sound device is preferred by the sound daemon.

1½ years later, still no reply to that question.
