Description of problem: Since a big update of KDE 4.12.5 (29-10-2014) some users (including me) reported an issue with sound volume when the headphones is plugged and unplugged, then is no sound from kmix anymore. Sound present in headphones when it is plugged again. Still no sound after reboot of the system. To have volume, it can be adjusted in alsamixer â select your sound card â adjust Speaker (but this I have to do again after new boot) Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): [yullaw@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa|grep pulseaudio libpulseaudio0-5.0-1.mga4 pulseaudio-module-zeroconf-5.0-1.mga4 lib64pulseaudio0-5.0-1.mga4 lib64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.27-3.mga4 lib64pulseaudio-devel-5.0-1.mga4 pulseaudio-utils-5.0-1.mga4 libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.27-3.mga4 pulseaudio-module-gconf-5.0-1.mga4 pulseaudio-module-equalizer-5.0-1.mga4 pulseaudio-module-x11-5.0-1.mga4 pulseaudio-5.0-1.mga4 pulseaudio-client-config-5.0-1.mga4 pulseaudio-module-bluetooth-5.0-1.mga4 task-pulseaudio-2011.0-4.mga4 [yullaw@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa|grep alsa libalsa2-devel-1.0.27.2-3.mga4 alsa-utils-1.0.27.2-2.1.mga4 lib64alsa-oss0-1.0.25-4.mga4 lib64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.27-3.mga4 lib64alsa2-1.0.27.2-3.mga4 libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.27-3.mga4 lib64alsa-plugins-1.0.27-3.mga4 libalsa2-1.0.27.2-3.mga4 alsa-plugins-pulse-config-1.0.27-3.mga4 libalsa-data-1.0.27.2-3.mga4 lib64alsa2-devel-1.0.27.2-3.mga4 [yullaw@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/issue Mageia release 4 (Official) for x86_64 Kernel 3.14.24-desktop-1.mga4 on a 4-processor x86_64 / \l [yullaw@localhost ~]$ lspcidrake -v snd_hda_intel : Intel Corporation|7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO_DEV] (vendor:8086 device:1e20 subv:1025 subd:064b) (rev: 04) WORKAROUND: =========== I have found a solution from https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=59217#c11 $ pactl set-sink-port alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo analog-output-speaker After no issue anymore! Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions, select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release. Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you most [2]. It is to some extent still valid in Mageia 5, or at least I'm experiencing something similar (and have been since I got my laptop, so at least Mageia 4).

Summary: MGA4: no sound from speakers after boot or when headphones is plugged/unplugged => no sound from speakers after boot or when headphones is plugged/unplugged
Assigning to pulseaudio maintainer Colin, but CCing the packagers taking care of orphan packages also because we haven't heard from Colin recently. To people experiencing the bug, do you still experience it in cauldron?

I believe that this issue is best resolved if the right sound device is preferred by the sound daemon.
