Description Barry Jackson 2014-12-23 14:08:11 CET
Description of problem:
After update last night graphics fail with nvidia driver.
System hangs with plymouthd using 100 %cpu. Killing plymouthd gets resources back.

Changing to vesa allows normal boot to graphical.

Not had time to test nvidia again and save xorg.0.log, but will try later.

Card is GEFORCE 8100 on laptop which has never had a video driver issue since Mageia-2 from which it has been updated for each Mageia release.

Looks like the nvidia kernel moduke didn't get installed properly...

try to run "depmod -a" and reboot

Possible that get deleted nokmsboot grub parameter?

Legacy grub:
title Mageia 4 - (desktop 3.14.24-1.mga4)
kernel (hd0,x)/boot/vmlinuz root=UUID=xxxxx resume=UUID=xxx nokmsboot vga=794
root (hd0,x)
initrd /boot/initrd.img

Yes that fixed it - I wonder why it didn't get installed properly?

@Mészáros Csaba
Thanks, nokmsboot is present - I'm using grub2 BTW.

Is this bug still valid with Mageia 5 beta 3?

No idea as I don't have another test machine with this hardware - it's my wife's laptop :\

There has been no repeat of this issue after the latest update to kernel-desktop-3.19.0-rc7.2 so I'm guessing it's fixed.

so, let's close it :)
