Description Husi Susi 2014-12-07 23:49:50 CET
Hello,

I am using mageia 5 beta (Uptodate) and to install Lightworks "is a professional non-linear editing system (NLE) for editing and mastering digital video" we need to have libCg 64 bit version. I installed libCg-3.1.0013-3.fc19.x86_64.rpm and after that I was able to start Lightwork.

Installing libcg0 -3.0.0018-0.5.mga5.nonfree and make hard link "ln /usr/lib/libCg.so /usr/lib64/libCg.so" did't fix this issue.

Thanks

HS

Hello and thanks for your report.

It seems that Lightworks needs version 3.1 of the Cg toolkit, but indeed we only provided version 3.0 in Mageia until now.
The problem is that Cg is a deprecated technology (even Nvidia advises against using it [1]) and it's proprietary, and since nothing requires it in the distro, we decided to drop it from Mageia 5, so it won't be possible to update it for Lightworks.

(Actually the fact that you were able to install Cg using the Mageia 5 RPM shows that we forgot to remove the RPMs from our repositories, even though we dropped it from our buildsystem, I'll get that fixed).

In definitive, to use Lightworks you will have to download Cg directly from Nvidia's website: https://developer.nvidia.com/cg-toolkit-download

You could also notify Lightworks developers that Cg is no longer available on every distro since it's a deprecated nonfree technology, so they might consider using more recent technologies or bundling the Cg library with their RPM.
