You'll need a widget theme with GTK3 support. Either use one with GTK3 support (at least Adwaita and Clearlooks Phenix has it) or install oxygen-gtk3 which is hardcoded to be the default one.
Pitivi crashed in MATE as well. It works better when oxygen-gtk3 is uninstalled, but with a lot of black in the interface, not very usable.

Nothing requires oxygen-gtk3, so, not only pitivi crashing, but all gtk3 programs are black in LXDE. Maybe to add requires oxygen-gtk3 in task-lxde-minimal?

Pitivi is unstable anyway. I tested with pre-installed oxygen-gtk3 in LXDE. Jani, will you update to the latest version? Maybe it helps.

Fixed in task-lxde-3-12.mga5. Pitivi-0.94-1.mga5 is stable now also. Thank you, Jani.
