Summary: 5a2: aumix: error opening mixer: No such file or directory => aumix: error opening mixer: No such file or directory
One should note that aumix runs fine after pulseaudio was disabled using draksound and the system was rebooted. Perhaps it is not intended to be used with pulseaudio. Maybe ask upstream.

Cauldron SRPM: aumix-2.9.1-11.mga8 Status of this bug? Upstream no release since May 6th, 2010! Ten years! Quick online search: no PulseAudio support and it relies directly on manipulating ALSA, which is not the recommended way with PulseAudio. @Shlomi, this discusses the purpose of this package. I see Ubuntu/Debian continues to provide it. It is not used under Plasma, Gnome, Xfce, Mate, Cinnamon. Only to text interfaces.

FYI: aumix-text is now installed in MGA7 and 8 instead of amuix and prints out the same error message. Yes, but comes in handy to set a desired volume level, then use alsactl to save/reset sound volume level. For example, using firefox you might jack up volume level when viewing a video. Upon exit I reset the volume level with alsactl to keep from blasting out a high volume level sound from some other application. I have been using the same saved asound.state file since Aug 7 2016 Steps to reproduce 1 aumix-text
