Description kyak kyak 2011-05-25 17:41:28 CEST
Would be great to have this patch for xorg included:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865

https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=57745

https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/36812

"Currently when you try to switch keyboard layouts in xorg session the switching
occurs when you press the shortcut (not when you release it). This prevents
using the switching keys in other combinations. For example if you switch
layouts with ctrl+shift shortcut you won't be able to normally use
ctrl+shift+something combinations."

This patch is working pretty stable for me.

Would baby Mageia be the first distro to include it out of the box? :)

- Mageia user X server 1.10.1 not 1.7
- It's only a couple of days before release and the distro is in freeze in preparation for the upcoming release

Might be a bad timing then for including this patch...

However it could be possible to update xorg with this patch some time after release?
Comment 3 Ahmad Samir 2011-05-25 18:01:41 CEST
Yes, of course. (note that I didn't close the report).

Assigning to maintainer now that our maintainer's database has an entry for
this package. Please assign back to bugsquad@mageia.org in case of a mistake
from me.

pinging. because nothing happened to this report since more than 3 months ago, and it still has the status NEW

@ Thierry
Please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead.

Comment 6 Thierry Vignaud 2012-01-06 15:57:54 CET
I'd rather wait it's included upstream...
Comment 7 kyak kyak 2012-01-07 07:57:30 CET
Despite of the fact that this bug has been reported upstream back in 2004, and the patch is still not included in upstream Xorg, and also that this patch is already included in several distros (namely, Ubuntu); i agree that probably it is better to wait for the upstream. At least this comment here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865#c97 gives me a hope that this long-living bug ends this year.
Comment 8 Marja Van Waes 2012-04-21 20:20:50 CEST
The upstream bug has the assigned status and there is a new patch for 1.12.0.902

If I didn't read too fast, 1.13 will be fixed.

Comment 9 kyak kyak 2012-04-22 07:42:19 CEST
You are right; the only question is - when 1.13 will be released?

Judging on the pace of versioning, this might as well happen long time from now :)

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Yep, still valid. I read above that back in 2012 we had hope for the fix to be done upstream, but it is clear now that it won't happen.
