On trying to log into Cauldron (installed from the Dual DVD, Xfce Desktop), my .Xauthority is always owned by root.root, and logging in can't proceed.

Workaround: Log in as root, change ownership to doug.doug, then log out and in again as doug.  This fix does not survive a reboot, and I have to do it again.

Today, I was able to log in.  Yesterday, I may have installed a new kernel.  My memory is like a sieve, but I recall installing a new kernel-nvidia.

Still can't pick a pattern for this.  It has done it once since Comment 1.

Seems to have been merged with Bug 13866.  This Bug has disappeared in practice.

Status: UNCONFIRMED => RESOLVED
