Description Barry Jackson 2011-05-22 12:26:14 CEST
Description of problem:
When using the manual option to set up a network during install it is not possible to paste an IP address to the DNS server fields.
This appears to work once an installation is complete, but always fails during the installation and possibly the first time of use (not sure about that).

This has been an annoying issue in Mandriva also, but I never got around to reporting it as it was minor and easily forgotten. ;-)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Right click network icon in sys tray
2.Select configure network
3.Next on Wired ethernet
4.Next
5.Select manual config - next
6.Enter an IP address for gateway
7.Select it and copy it using context menu
8.Try to paste it into the DNS server1 field
9. You can't as the paste option is greyed out.

It works for you *during an installation* ??

I have *never* seen this work during an install when attempting to set up a network.
Is there a new installer to test?
Comment 3 Manuel Hiebel 2011-10-11 16:14:35 CEST
1.Right click network icon in sys tray
2.Select configure network

so for me it's not in the installation :)

I will try that

I have test in the installer and it's work.
Comment 5 Barry Jackson 2011-10-16 01:05:55 CEST
Hmm - I normally use a HD install with vmlinuz and all.rdz.

Which installer did you use, mga1 DVD from mga1 full .iso?
I recently used mga1 dual-arch .iso in a HD install and it had the bug.

Tell me what you used and I will re-test ;)

it was the dvd x86_64 from mga 1 if i'am not wrong, i will test the netinstall
Comment 7 Barry Jackson 2011-11-26 22:05:24 CET
This is still the same in mga2 alpha1 DVD installer.
(Installed using .iso on USB stick)

Exactly as original report.

Maybe the steps to reproduce are misleading in the original report.

In the installer an option set up the network is available IIRC from the summary page. It is from here that the configuration is started and this is when the issue arises.

Maybe we miss some gtk or x11 module in installer

Actually what doesn't work is just copying though the context menu.
C-c & c-v work as well as mouse pasting once copied through the keyboard...

I won't wast more time on this bug so it's free for anyone to debug

Did it worked in previous mandriva releases?

maybe some breakage in the theme engine?

Priority: Normal => Low
Summary: Copy/paste broken in network configuration during installation. => Copy doesn't work using right click menu in network configuration during installation

I never tried C-c C-v in that situation - thanks.

> I won't wast more time on this bug so it's free for anyone to debug

I agree this is very low priority but still rather annoying, if I only knew how to start debugging it, I would have a go myself :\

> Did it worked in previous mandriva releases?

AFAIR No

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

This is one of 8 hyper-stale bugs and enhancement requests (other than package requests) that are now being closed as old.

Each of them
* is still assigned to BugSquad instead of to a maintainer
* did not see any action since June 2012

If this one is still valid, then please reopen it.

In that case: don't be shocked that I closed it:
There is more chance it'll get fixed after it's wrongly closed and then reopened again (because of the mails Bugzilla sends to many packagers etc. when there is some action in a bug), than when nothing happens in this report for some more years :-)
