Description Angelo Naselli 2014-07-17 09:04:37 CEST
I installed network manager and network manager plasma applet for KDE.
Then I set the icon on bar for that plasmoid.
The icon is stretched and long, taking about 1/6 of the bar.

You are adding it the wrong way :) Right click on the icon (small triangle) that shows hidden icons and choose options, then enable network management ;)

WOW, that's work, but then the other way should not be offered... Otherwhise
is not the user who is wrong ;)
Comment 4 Sander Lepik 2014-07-17 11:01:03 CEST
Well, sounds like an upstream bug :)
Comment 5 Angelo Naselli 2014-07-17 11:41:51 CEST
Feal free to fill an upstream bug and close this as upstream :)

Duplicate of https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11851

But when I right-click on the small triangle separating the sound icon from the application icons, all I get is System Tray Settings and Panel Options. Selecting System Tray Settings does indeed pop up a dialog where Network Management has not been checked. When I check it and click on Apply, it adds an icon in the notifications area to the left of the hidden icons icon which is a red X with a mouseover tooltip of "Unable to load widget....xxx is not a Type", and the stretched-out icon remains.

I just tried removing my existing spread-out icon and attempting to re-add it using both the original technique I used (Panel Toolkit, Add Widgets, NetworkManager) and Sander's technique given above. Both failed in the way I described above (...PlasmaNM.NetworkModel is not a type).

So now there's no KDE NM icon at all.
Comment 8 Frank Griffin 2014-07-18 14:48:29 CEST
This appears to be another case of KDE failing to upgrade an existing configuration.

I created a new user and logged in with KDE. The NM icon was present on the panel and was of normal size. When I followed Sander's procedure above, NM (and a lot of other things that weren't checked on my usual ID) were already checked. Unchecking NM and clicking Apply removed the icon, and re-checking it and clicking Apply restored it correctly.

Update:

Leaving the red X error icon in the panel of my regular ID and rebooting caused the icon to be replaced by the normal NM icon.

The difference appears to be that when you go the Add Widget route, the icon gets added to the right side of the panel with the time/date and workplace switcher. When you use Sander's technique, it's added to the left side of the panel with the Notifications and Sound Level.

Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't
able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and
change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions,
select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].

As far as I can say works now. If anyone above has experienced problems yet can re-open it.
