1.Install pre-existing systems as per #3, or equivalent
2.Install Mageia-5-a1_x64 with no boot loader requested
3.previous grub menu showing installed systems:

Right now Mageia-5-a1 is being recovered to partition 13 from a backup so I cannot say if the menu was grub-legacy or grub2, pretty sure it' s grub2. Every other bootable option was *showing* either sda8 or sda12 and there were about 24 or more.  I didn't try booting anything except what I could be sure of on the basis of THAT menu and that was the installed mageia-5-a1 and then I reverted to my own grub menu immediately following
