Description of problem: (this issue does not exist on 32 bit version) Per https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation_Media#Dump_Mageia_ISO_on_a_USB_flash_drive.3F used isodumper to created bootable USB ISO from .../install/images/boot.iso; but on first write, I got "isolinux.bin missing or corrupt". Re-wrote USB with 32 bit version which worked. So re-wrote 64 bit version again, and it worked this time... (I *hate* one-time failures). Installing an a new Dell Inspiron 17R (5737) fails trying to read: /tmp/image/media/core/release/media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz but... ^^^^^ Since I told the installer that my local repo is on an external drive in: distros/remote/mageia/distrib/4/x86_64 <==MYPATH the file is actually in: /tmp/media/<MYPATH>/media/core/release/media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ so the install fails... Log at F3 contains: * comparing /tmp/image/media/core/release/media_info/MD5SUM and /mnt/var/lib/urmpi/MD5SUM.Core Release * copying MD5SUM file of "Core Release"... * copying [/tmp/image/media/core/release/media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz] for medium "Core Release"... * ...copying done * computing md5sum or retrieved source synthesis * urpmi error: retrieval of [/tmp/image/media/core/release/media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz] failed (md5sum mismatch) * urpmi error: problem reading synthesis file of medium "Core Release" * updating media failed Which raises these questions: 1. did copy of MD5SUM actually succeed? 2. why do I get "...copying done" on a non-existant file? Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Mageia 4: VERSION: Mageia 4 Official-x86_64-Download 20140530 16:07 How reproducible: always. Steps to Reproduce: 1. create USB ISO boot image with isodumper 2. boot, specify path to repo 3. follow install steps until Media Selection Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
After more digging, it appears the problem is indeed an md5sum mismatch... # cat MD5SUM f9a4c1aba5ea4f56645a21d76cd977ff hdlist.cz 8f80c0d62c24a4ff796f387b0f9b14bc synthesis.hdlist.cz 05f4fc0c590c3ef569b36e6c5a0243f9 info.xml.lzma b8fff1f23c6a3f6339e873942de4ee1a files.xml.lzma 2c37390e9fd2e1c4c5360b986be800d6 changelog.xml.lzma f9a4c1aba5ea4f56645a21d76cd977ff 20140206-225950-hdlist.cz 8f80c0d62c24a4ff796f387b0f9b14bc 20140206-225950-synthesis.hdlist.cz 05f4fc0c590c3ef569b36e6c5a0243f9 20140206-225950-info.xml.lzma b8fff1f23c6a3f6339e873942de4ee1a 20140206-225950-files.xml.lzma 2c37390e9fd2e1c4c5360b986be800d6 20140206-225950-changelog.xml.lzma # md5sum -c MD5SUM hdlist.cz: FAILED synthesis.hdlist.cz: FAILED info.xml.lzma: FAILED files.xml.lzma: FAILED changelog.xml.lzma: FAILED 20140206-225950-hdlist.cz: FAILED 20140206-225950-synthesis.hdlist.cz: FAILED 20140206-225950-info.xml.lzma: FAILED 20140206-225950-files.xml.lzma: FAILED 20140206-225950-changelog.xml.lzma: FAILED md5sum: WARNING: 10 computed checksums did NOT match Renames MD5SUM to MD5SUM.bad and refreshed repo... # cat MD5SUM ae2d94e3bac6c51513dfe1fc0ee797b9 hdlist.cz 29375034edb527c42091b12f9d67d97d synthesis.hdlist.cz 8494f932ab9425f644a7fe8f6fe446d8 info.xml.lzma ba97a491a2d9caf271eaadcb597325d7 files.xml.lzma 38c6280f869a2a1e405251a121040de3 changelog.xml.lzma ae2d94e3bac6c51513dfe1fc0ee797b9 20140129-225424-hdlist.cz 29375034edb527c42091b12f9d67d97d 20140129-225424-synthesis.hdlist.cz 8494f932ab9425f644a7fe8f6fe446d8 20140129-225424-info.xml.lzma ba97a491a2d9caf271eaadcb597325d7 20140129-225424-files.xml.lzma 38c6280f869a2a1e405251a121040de3 20140129-225424-changelog.xml.lzma What's especially disconcerting is this: # ll MD* -rw-r--r-- 1 pfortin pfortin 576 Jan 29 17:54 MD5SUM -rw-r--r-- 1 pfortin pfortin 576 Feb 6 17:59 MD5SUM.bad So, apparently a bad MD5SUM was installed on Feb 6 and the correct one from Jan 29 has been restored... (?) At least, now I can get past this point in the install, BUT... only to be still blocked by bug 10162 (64 bit install looking for "Core 32bit Release"). :(
