Details

Description Thomas Spuhler 2014-05-01 03:16:59 CEST
Description of problem:
system freezes randomly and it most be rebooted (using the power switch)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Magei4, kernel-desktop-3.12.13
and earlier kernels

How reproducible:
Depending on usage of box every other day up a few times per day.
and on several different boxes.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. suddenly, part of desktop freezes. mouse still moves.
2.hit CTRL+ALT + F3
3. log in as root and do a journalctl -n200 to get the error log
as attached

shutdown will partly succeed but at the end, using the on/off button is required.

Looks like upstream bug
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29162

I don't expect our kernel maintainer to fix this, but he may be more knowledgable where we stand with this and if there is still active work to get it fixed.

SUSE states in the announcement for their new corporate server (to be released in Q4) that they will support Reiserfs for existing installations, but will not allow it on any new installations.
