Using mageia-dvd-1-rc-i586.iso, the first screen starts gfxboot on any keypress, including escape, f1, etc. This makes it impossible to select a text mode install, or an alternate kernel (required for installing on VirtualBox on a single processor system). This test was using an actual dvd with a ps/2 keyboard, on an i586 system.
"startx gfxboot" as in it starts the installation or start the GRUB graphical menu?

I've burned the iso to a physical dvd, and booted the system from the dvd. The first screen that shows is a text screen with the title "Welcome to Magiea Install Help", with a list of boot options, "text, linux, linux vga..." and near the bottom, "F1 help", "F2 Advanced help". No matter what key is pressed, it shows gfxboot followed by "Initializing gfx code ...". The screen then switches to graphical mode, The screen is visible for about 3 seconds, as it loads gfxboot from the dvd. This is in preparation for install on the real hardware. Running under virtualbox, from the iso on the hard drive, the screen shows for only about 1 second. This is the installer, not a virtualbox problem.

Looking at this again, does bug 2038 comment 2, work?
Yes. Adding text to the kernel option does give me a text installation. I wanted to try the text install, to see if it would help with bug 44, but the mkinitrd still gets killed as it takes more than 10 minutes under VirtualBox. Closing this bug as Resolved/WorksForMe.
