Description Georges Eckenschwiller 2011-05-15 18:32:43 CEST

Description of problem:
When you install multiple desktops (eg KDE and Gnome or IceWM and Xfce), MCC can choose the default desktop only when you choose autologin.

It would be interesting to choose the desktop without using autologin.

Well if there's no autologin the user can choose the default desktop to there's no reason to add this option.

I see a point here, adding a DESKTOP= line to /etc/sysconfig/desktop would set session that's selected by default for new user accounts, e.g.
DESKTOP=Openbox

will make the user get logged into Openbox when he logs in for the first time.

drakboot adds that line only when configuring autologin.

I don't see the point.
Either user is a newbie and just have the only desktop choosen at install time or (s)he is a more advanced user who knows about desktops and actually manually choose several desktops and thus know either how to choose one and/or how to enable autologin

Summary: MCC does not leave the choice of desktop => drakboot only offer to choosee of desktop when enabling autologin

From this perspective, the question of interest actually arises.

What motivated me to make this suggestion is that, currently (and worse
in Mandriva), Xfce is not the place it deserves among Mageia.
For me, the Xfce environment is an excellent compromise between system responsiveness (especially with computers a bit old) and ergonomics. I think the solution is not sufficient LXDE.
Currently, it is not possible to install Xfce environment (and only him) when installing Mageia.

Apra ¨ s many trials, I found a relatively simple (but everything is relative):
- Initially, only install the X server, the IceWM desktop-ligth with MCC.
(without the package suggests).
- A second time, install task-xfce and the desired application LIGHT AND DM.

But the premiere Step remains to be corrected by Mageia. I do not understand why DrakX install KDM (with a hundred unnecessary packages), while KDM has nothing to do with Gtk.
(see report # 609).

If the # 609 © is treated, this suggestion has no interest in 1288.

#609 is fixed, so this one can also closed, I think.

This improvement is still desirable: to facilitate the choice of display manager.
But this is not a priority.
