This backport provides libreoffce-4.2 to mga4 (we currently have 4.1). The needed libraries were updated along: libreoffice libodfgen libfreehand libetonyek libe-book libeot libabw libmwaw mdds Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
are those libraries used only by libreoffice?

Yes. (technically some of them requires the others, but the whole dependancies cycle points to libreoffice). For now, I was thinking at pushing 4.1.x updates through updates & 4.2.x ones through backports
I forgot to say I've tested it a bit on my wife's laptop
I did some basic testing within MGA4 on i586 and didn't find any issues. Just some basic file opens and saves, nothing to in depth, but it looked ok with what I tried.

I did further testing on MGA4 with x86_64 on Hyper-V. Again, basic open, close, save and worked with a few previous files in all but Base. No immediate issues found.
Created attachment 4991 [details] Bug with strings in libreoffice 4.2 (backport candidate for mga4) I've got a problem with this backport using a Mga4 setup with XFCE (using VM). No font is used by libreoffice and there's only a string of strange symbols. (I'm gonna check if this problem appears on an other fresh install.) I've made a screenshot.

(In reply to Guillaume from comment #6) > Bug with strings in libreoffice 4.2 (backport candidate for mga4) Are you sure this only happen with LO? If yes, only with LO-4.2? What if you downgrade to 4.1? (use urpmi --downgrade libreoffice-writer...)
(In reply to Thierry Vignaud from comment #9) > (In reply to Guillaume from comment #6) > Are you sure this only happen with LO? > If yes, only with LO-4.2? > What if you downgrade to 4.1? (use urpmi --downgrade libreoffice-writer...) I downgraded and problem disappeared. On a fresh XFCE install, the problem does no longer exist. So ... it's ok for me, even if I didn't know why this problem appeared.
(In reply to Guillaume from comment #10) > I downgraded and problem disappeared. On a fresh XFCE install, the problem > does no longer exist. So ... it's ok for me, even if I didn't know why this > problem appeared. Well, looks like the opposite to me: your test shows that LO 4.2 has a problem that 4.1 didn't have, isn't it?
(In reply to Samuel VERSCHELDE from comment #11) > Well, looks like the opposite to me: your test shows that LO 4.2 has a > problem that 4.1 didn't have, isn't it? Yes, strings problems disapeared by downgrading, but, as i saw this problem came from 4.2 (to my mind), I wanted to check again with a fresh install, i wasn't able to reproduce problem. I'm gonna check again in the afternoon. Do you mean this problem appears on XFCE only or in other DE ? In my opinion, we should not push libreoffice 4.2 into backports repos since this problem has not been elucidated.
I can't reproduce the problem on a fresh install. All seems to be ok for me then on XFCE.
As backports do not use the advisory system, someone from the sysadmin team, please push libreoffice-4.2.0.4-1.mga4.src.rpm from Mageia 4 Core Backports Testing to Core Backports
Keywords: (none) => validated_updateCC: (none) => davidwhodgins, sysadmin-bugs
did someone check for policy? cherry-picking, no external deps, etc?
As discussed with Claire on IRC, removing the validated tag, till rpmdrake is fixed as per bug 12766. Please do not push yet.
Keywords: validated_update => (none)
the packages in this request are now wiped from backports_testing until rpmdrake properly handles backports... we are also getting bashed by reviewers for "missing libreoffice"

But why not introduce the 4.2 version through the updates repository? The development cycle of Libreoffice is quite fast and without the backports system the Mageia Libreoffice gets outdated very quickly. Or at least - please put the Mageia 4 Libreoffice 4.2 packages temporarily eg in /people/tmb/ directory...

(In reply to Jüri Ivask from comment #18) > But why not introduce the 4.2 version through the updates repository? The > development cycle of Libreoffice is quite fast and without the backports > system the Mageia Libreoffice gets outdated very quickly. Why not ... the document foundation strongly recommends to use the last version available. And as life cycle is fast, as Jüri said, it should be a good idea to push libreoffice 4.2 to 4/core/updates. See with QA team and Packagers.
And the End of Life of the 4.1 series will be already at the May 28, 2014...
Will LibreOffice 4.2 be pushed in non-Testing repos?

It's in backports but we could push it to updates_testing instead. And update it to latest 4.2.x; And maybe push 4.3.x in backports instead of 4.2.x
It is currently in Backport-Testing. At least, it could be pushed in Backport. That said, we could indeed update to the latest 4.2.x. Concerning 4.3, it seems the document foundation does not recommand to use the x.y.0 version (I do not succeed to retrieve a message saying that).
Please note that libreoffice-presentation-minimizer is not included anymore in the 4.2.0.4 version. It was included in 4.1.5.3. I do not precisely for what this package is used.
Another think, this update should pe proposed for everybody as soon as possible because it fixes a very annoying bug in calc: * https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11996 * https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12546 * https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13586
