Description Stéphane Couturier 2014-02-05 08:54:54 CET
Description of problem:
I am using Wine for a program called Ant Movie Catalog (open source but not available on Linux).http://update.antp.be/amc/amc_full.rar
I use a x86_64 Mageia 4 KDE.

When I tried to run it for the first time from the console:
$ wine MovieCatalog.exe
Wine cannot find the ncurses library (libncurses.so.5).
Wine cannot find the FreeType font library. To enable Wine to
use TrueType fonts please install a version of FreeType greater than
or equal to 2.0.5.
http://www.freetype.org

libncurses and freetype are already installed on my system from the x86_64 media.

I tried and actually fixed the issue by installing 2 additional packages:
libncurses and freetype but from the i586 media.
I didnot have to do this on Mageia 3.

It could be nice to add these 2 dependencies to run 32b programs without any issues.
Thanks

Is this bug still valid?

I can confirm that installing wine on MGA4 pulls libncurses5 as well, but I can't confirm for the other two packages.

Unless they have been added as requires for the wine package, then it is still valid. I'm no longer running a cauldron virtual machine anymore, and I don't have time right now to set one up, so I can't check any new packages or on a clean machine.

I checked on my MGA4 box, but the libraries were already present. I was able to remove libncurses5, but the other two were a dependency for too many packages.

Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't
able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and
change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions,
select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].

I don't use WINE anymore, so I haven't checked that this is fixed. I guess it can be closed as WONTFIX?
Comment 6 Samuel Verschelde 2015-09-28 08:58:11 CEST
It will get closed as OLD eventually. We'll leave some time for the original bug reporter to answer if needed.

Most likely the pertinent issue is that the game app isn't packaged by MGA. Probably something else available only in i586 in MGA3 pulled in the i586 packages and an x86_64 version was available in MGA4 so, as far as MGA4 was concerned, the i586 versions were no longer needed and wouldn't just "be there" for the non-MGA app.

The same issue exists for googleearth, which requires the i586 libcurl4 libraries.

Probably a WONTFIX. If you install non-RPM-packaged software, the dependencies are your responsibility.

As announced over a month ago, Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates.

This issue may have been fixed in a later Mageia release, so, if you still see it and didn't already do so: please upgrade to Mageia 5 (or, if you read this much later than this is written: make sure you run a currently maintained Mageia version)

If you are able to reproduce it against a maintained version of Mageia, you are encouraged to
1. reopen this bug report, by changing the "Status" from "RESOLVED - OLD" to "REOPENED"
2. click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. If you know it's valid in several versions, select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.
3. give as much relevant information as possible. If you're not an experienced bug reporter and have some time: please read this page:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly

If you see a similar issue, but are _not_sure_ it is the same, with the same cause, then please file a new bug report and mention this one in it (please include the bug number, too).

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].
