Picture of the screen after trying to startup

The seems to be no version 4 RC option so I have selected 'Cauldron'.

I have a laptop running Mageia3 without problems, before that it ran Mageia2. I have just tried the new Mageia-4-RC-LiveDVD-KDE4-x86_64-DVD.iso but it doesn't select the correct graphics, so all I see a mainly blank screen with a few dots on it; picture attached. I also tried an earlier alpha release of v4 and it had the same problem.

The xorg.conf on Mageia3 is

If you'd like me to test something here (in case you haven't access to this hardware) please ask. I'm a professional software developer so if I need to build/run/edit something that will help then I'm willing to give it a try.

The laptop is from PC Specialist and is a Clevo W350ET. It has both Intel on board graphics and Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M 2GB. On Mageia3 I use the Intel graphics since the Nvidia one doesn't work.

Comment 2 Simon Geard 2014-01-30 17:17:56 CET
Maybe that's the problem. Mageia4 is choosing NVidia but the chosen driver doesn't work. Is it possible to boot the live CD to run level three? If so I could login as root and start X from there, that might give me more infornation.
Comment 3 Simon Geard 2014-02-05 00:20:53 CET
This seems to be a version of a problem reported elsewhere with the Live CD but I don't know which previous report that was so I've marked it as 'OLD'. If I use Ctrl-Alt-Backspace the x-server restarts and I can login.

Since I have now installed Mageia4 properly from the DVD I'm happy for this bug report to be closed.
