Classic 4final DVD 32 (2nd build) Made a huge mga3 installation with 5600 packages and overnight during upgrade to mga4 had LAN/mirror issues (local mirror) which caused it to fail in need of updating the medias. Throughout the upgrade it was tremendously slow, having a long think between transactions. I cancelled so it would backtrack and I could add a mirrorlist mirror and set it going again. Incidentally the 'bug' command fails, pretty sure there is a bug report for this though. When I came back to it, it appeared to have crashed, with only tty1 showing it unmounting everything and saying it was now safe to reboot. I could switch to tty2 but not enter anything at the prompt. Reset the machine and tried again to upgrade from the dvd with online medias added. When it reached the stage of checking what was installed it crashed back to the text console, saying the same and unable to enter anything at the tty2 prompt. It shows.. Entering step 'Choosing packages' exited abnormally :-( -- received signal 7 (EE) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file. Then appears to shut down normally. Pics attached. The second one is from tty3 Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
Created attachment 4868 [details] pic showing the screen it drops to on tty1
Created attachment 4869 [details] pic showing tty3
Created attachment 4870 [details] pic showing log on tty4 sdd1 is a vfat usb stick I plugged in to try and retrieve logs but it's not possible AFAICT.
It actually crashes immediately after choosing the keyboard layout.
The requested info, thanks Thierry. CPU is an intel Q6600 (old quad core) and the installation was 32bit. VGA is Nvidia GT220 (nvidia-current)
@ Claire is this bug still valid for 4 -> 5 upgrades? If so please set it to block the tracker, bug 15637 If not, please close this bug
