Description Alejandro Lopez 2014-01-16 09:08:26 CET
Description of problem:
I'm constantly having plenty of errors on /var/log/{messages,syslog,kernel/errors.log,kernel/warnings.log}:

Jan 15 22:52:32 localhost kernel: mei_me 0000:00:16.0: reset: unexpected enumeration response hbm.
Jan 15 22:52:32 localhost kernel: mei_me 0000:00:16.0: reset: wrong host start response

In about one hour my root partition will have no more free space (43Gb free when I clean the files).

In addition to this, one core is being used at 100% by the kernel thread irq/47-mei_me.

Running on an Asus X75, I seem to be hitting this kernel bug:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36288

The bug is supposed to be fixed on 3.10.5 however, people running on Asus K75 claim the fix didn't work for them (which also seems to be my case).

As a work-around I stopped syslog, which avoids the disk's free space problem and lowers the CPU usage to 90%.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel 3.10.24

How reproducible:
Always happening

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot the machine
2. Errors can be seen with dmesg

See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=169583 . Apparently a 3.10.x problem that was fixed in 3.11.

I reproduced this bug on 8/5 with Mageia 3, kernel 3.10.28

Here are the flooded messages:
May 8 21:48:52 localhost kernel: mei_me 0000:00:16.0: unexpected reset: dev_state = RESETTING
May 8 21:48:52 localhost kernel: mei_me 0000:00:16.0: reset: unexpected enumeration response hbm.
May 8 21:48:52 localhost kernel: mei_me 0000:00:16.0: unexpected reset: dev_state = RESETTING
May 8 21:48:52 localhost kernel: mei_me 0000:00:16.0: reset: wrong host start response
May 8 21:48:52 localhost kernel: mei_me 0000:00:16.0: reset: wrong host start response
...

As I have /var and / on the same partition, this blocks the launch of X on next reboot

Comment 3 Marja Van Waes 2015-03-31 16:03:35 CEST
Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago.
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/

Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
