Xfce is maintained by just one person (read: me) in free time after real life and day job. Do you think it's really motivating to continue efforts after you see such comments? I know we have flaws in Xfce. My plans are to improve Xfce in mga step by step, but as I'm doing all this by myself with limited resources, it can't be done in one night. We also need constructive feedback and bug reports and/or suggestions from users how to improve Xfce. Things are currently done with way which pleases me and my eye and how they were in mdv. It's hard to please all people when doing things alone and especially when you don't get constructive feedback. Not providing plugins with install media comes from era when space was limited. Dunno if we currently have space left on media to ship all plugins. In my opinion, one can install all plugins he/she wants/needs via rpmdrake after the "base system" is installed. If you can give some reasonable arguments (other than "we can't even provide Xfce", which isn't true at all) to ship plugins with install media and we have space left, I think we can consider installing plugins by default with mga5. However my opinion is to not bloat systems with unneeded pkgs.
Please, don't misunderstand my purposes. First of all, my english is poor, so my sentences are short and approximative. I like Xfce, and Mageia, as you i suppose. That's why i posted all these bugs about Xfce today, cause I have been pressed to do so in the french forum. In this particular case, what i wanted to mean is that, when you are a user, not a devopper, it seems so simple cause the meta-package exists. I know that, in the facts, it is not so simple cause I worked 42 years in IT servers (applications development, databases and system). I agree with you, it is important not to bloat systems with unneeded packages. But to have less possibilities of customizing his DE than other distros is important too. And that's what one believes if he doesn't know how to install or if it is in the repositories. The plugins i install on every PC are NetworkMonitor and CPU Frequency. I indicate to users that, when nothing moves after clicking, they have to have a look at those icons in the Panel Control, to verify that CPU are working or not, if network is down/up loadin or not. But if you have no space left... Finally, please believe it was a "constructive feedback", really, and accept my encouragement.
Sure, no problem. I'll take all this as a constructive feedback. :) As I'm not fluent in english either, there might be sometimes some misunderstandings. Reporting bugs is important part of improving Xfce in mga as we might miss some plugins/softwares/features as I'm not aware of every soft in earth. So keep reporting. I'll add missing pkgs if it's possible. I think we can install at least some (if not all) plugins by default, but if we want to have them also enabled it needs some modifications to the default config (mageia-xfce-config) also. I can add task-plugins as a requirement to task-xfce, it's not a problem. However I want to keep task-xfce-minimal as minimal as possible so it can be used to install minimal system with netinstall. Task-xfce-minimal + some other pkgs defined in rpmsrate-raw (from meta-task pkg) are shipped with DVD so all this needs some more thinking. You can suggest packages you would like to have installed with default Xfce DVD install (others than Xfce ones too) and maybe they will end to DVD. So we'll see later what happens to Xfce in mga5. For mga4 it's too late.
This is a real problem. But it's understandable lack of space on the DVD. In this case, it would have the update on deposits mageia offer the hotfix.

There is task-xfce, task-xfce minimal, and task-xfce-plugins. If task-xfce-plugins was on the DVD, shouldn't it be optional? Does the distro have to be tailored for one user? If he installs in bulk, he could write his own listing.

"Does the distro have to be tailored for one user?" Absolutely not. It should give the new user of Mageia the largest experience of Xfce. Even if this user does not yet know how to install rpm's. Install the plugins does not mean they should all be activated.
Another argument for bloat for bloat's sake. If the plugins aren't activated, the new user won't know about them. Why not turn them all on to give him the "full experience?"
task-xfce-plugins was on .ISO, but none of pkgs it's suggesting weren't. So I removed it from rpmsrate-raw and thus from .ISOs. For now, I'm closing this as WONTFIX.
