I just installed the Mageia 5 rpm, from Cauldron.... urpmi http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/i586/media/core/release/subtitleeditor-0.41.1-1.mga5.i586.rpm At first look, it seems to be working properly. Maybe you could use this rpm for Mageia 4 updates, as well.
Thanks for your report! There was a packaging issue in the mga4 RPM, I will push an update candidate.

Advisory: ========= The subtitleeditor package in Mageia 4 was broken due to missing .so components, that were erroneously removed thinking they are development libraries. This has now been fixed by preventing the removal of those .so files. Two patches from upstream were also added to fix issues with gstreamermm 0.10.11 (gna#20653 and gna#21501). Testing procedure: ================== - Install subtitleeditor-0.41.0-2.mga4 from core/release - Notice that the interface and menus are empty, and that the terminal output complains about missing .so files - Install subtitleeditor-0.41.0-2.1.mga4 from core/updates_testing - The interface should now be usable. Try some basic functionalities of the software to make sure there are no other obvious bugs.
