Description Stéphane Couturier 2013-12-15 13:43:37 CET
Description of problem:
I use a common way to move the content of a cell by selecting, dragging the cell and releasing the mouse to a different cell, this operation puts on hold everything in the system. I cannot do anything else with the system.
After several minutes the operation finally is complete and the text is moved, and I resume the system normally.
It may be a libreoffice bug, but anyhow it should not freeze the entire system, especially preventing the access to a console or to the list of process to kill it (Ctrl+Esc).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
4.1.3.2-3.mga4

How reproducible:
Everytime.
Reproduced on updated installed cauldron and on updated VirtualBox

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start LibreOffice Calc
2. Type some text in a cell
3. Select the cell (click on and move over it)
4. Drag the cell and move the mouse to drop the text somewhere elese
5. The mouse cursor changes to an arrow with an additional box below
6. The system is stalled for several minutes

Reproducible:

Same issue when moving a worksheet tab with a drag and drop.

"system freeze" may not be appriopriate, but the only thing I have control is the mouse cursor.

Sometimes I manage to regain control when pressing Esc.

Summary: Moving a cell freezes the whole system for several minutes => LibreOffice Calc / KDE: Moving a cell freezes the whole system for several minutes
Severity: normal => major

Comment 2 Stéphane Couturier 2013-12-16 22:26:07 CET
Sometimes I also manage to regain control when pressing the laptop's Power button.

I have/had same problem. "Solution" is uninstall libreoffice-kde package.

I mean it is upstream problem. Pleas report this to libreoffice.org.

Thank you!
Indeed, no more "freeze".

Maybe this package should be removed / disabled in the next release if it is not fixed. It may really impact users otherwise.
It does not seem to provide much value (I cannot actually tell the difference now I removed it).

This problem has been around a long time. I first encountered it in Libreoffice 3.4.4 way back in Mageia 1. Same solution back then, too. It showed up in several distributions at the time, so it must be an upstream bug. For what it's worth, a Q&A at

http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/30256/calc-freezing-with-blocks-of-cells/

suggests that the problem may have been eliminated in Libreoffice 4.1.2.

I meant to type Libreoffice 4.2. Sorry about that.

In Cauldron this now causes LO Calc to freeze immediately on launch.

Removing libreoffice-kde package fixes this.

Adding neoclust to cc.

The problem is fixed in libreoffice 4.2.0.4 currently proposed in Backport Testing.

Can you try LO-4.3 from updates_testing?

As I said, the problem was fixed with the 4.2.0.4 version. I tried 4.3.6.1 version from update_testing and the problem is still not there (it is not gone back).
