Description claire robinson 2013-11-11 11:25:21 CET
4beta1 DVD 32 (Nov 10/11 build) with default XFCE installation.

XFCE now installs with XDM rather than GDM as an after thought, see bug 11325

There is no obvious option to reboot the machine. The menu offers a logout option and the taskbar offers a shutdown icon but nowhere are reboot or suspend etc offered (that i noticed).

Worth mentioning that there are no reboot/shutdown etc options in XDM.

Xfce should be installed with lightdm and not with xdm.
Comment 3 claire robinson 2013-11-11 11:32:33 CET
Unless I'm confusing the two DMs. It's the one where there is only a text entry box and you have to type the username.
Comment 4 Georges Eckenschwiller 2013-11-11 14:11:38 CET
I think that it is effectively xdm, the DM by default.
This one is very basic.

Personally, I prefer lxdm which works well with Xfce and who asks for fewer dependences than lightdm.

Lxdm and lightdm are much more complete.

lxdm has some polkit issues IINM, so lightdm may be better.
Comment 6 Jani Välimaa 2013-11-11 16:35:58 CET
I have a patch for installer to add minimal lightdm support for xfce, but I've not tested it locally yet. If someone has time or knows how to test it locally, I can attach it here. However as it's not tested at all, I don't know does it work as expecded.

which task package do you have for XFCE? task-xfce and task-xfce-minimal or only task-xfce-minimal ?
Comment 8 Jani Välimaa 2013-11-11 20:13:05 CET
BTW, it wasn't possible to install lightdm in alpha3 as 'lightdm-gtk-greeter-common' was missing from the dvd. Please check that it's available in the latest .iso.
Comment 9 Manuel Hiebel 2013-11-11 21:30:48 CET
it's only in the dual (xfce one):/

$ grep lightdm-gtk-greeter-common /media/data/iso/mga4/Mageia-4-beta1-*/*.idx
/media/data/iso/mga4/Mageia-4-beta1-dual-DVD/Mageia-4-beta1-dual-DVD.idx:Mageia - mageia dual 4 beta 1 lightdm-gtk-greeter-common-1.6.1 (i586)
/media/data/iso/mga4/Mageia-4-beta1-dual-DVD/Mageia-4-beta1-dual-DVD.idx:Mageia - mageia dual 4 beta 1 lightdm-gtk-greeter-common-1.6.1 (x86_64)
Comment 10 Anne Nicolas 2013-11-11 21:46:28 CET
Added in list for dvds. Still this is not "normal" as it should be required by package(s)
Comment 11 Jani Välimaa 2013-11-12 14:57:22 CET
To the original "problem", logout/power off/reboot/suspend/hibernate comes available when you choose logout from the menu.
