if you install kde using for example the following packages in rpmdrake:

Default-kde4-config kdebase4 kdebase4-common

the resulting installation does not contain all needed core components of kde, for example the following has to be installed additionaly at a minimum:

dolphin plasma-applet-showdesktop

also i could not get the "lock button" of kde working, when i klick on lock my whole session freezes and i have to restart X using Ctrl+ALT+Backspace

perhaps i just take the wrong (virtual) package for installing kde? if yes, this should be mentioned somehow in rpmdrake

regards

Mike

There are meta-packages called task-*

in rpmdrake, change the dropdown menu on the left from "Packages with GUI" to "Meta packages", and you will find them under "Graphical desktop".

in your case you want either task-kde or task-kde-minimal

If you use urpmi, you can list available metapackages with the command "urpmq -y task-"

ok, this solves it.

however i really think it would make sense to add some message asking "do you only want to install that component or a complete or minimal working kde system"

Mike
