Description Nicolas B 2013-10-19 16:29:45 CEST
Symptom is both the following:

1. Sometimes, logging into KDE the sound will not be working.
1a. Reboot will usually fix it.

2. Sound will stop working after "x" amount of time (varies)
2a. Going into KMix->Audio Setup, the hardware is detected properly, but I can't test the sound. It gives no errors, there just isn't sound.
2b. Reboot will usually fix it, unless I get symptom #1.

To me, #2 is a bigger deal.

My setup:
NVIDIA GTX 670 using stock drivers 319.60
DisplayPort connected to Dell U2713HM
kernel 3.12.0-desktop-0.rc5.2.mga4 x86_64

If you need more info, feel free to ask.

still valid with last update ?
Comment 2 Nicolas B 2013-11-09 02:35:55 CET
Yes still does it as of today.
Comment 3 Nicolas B 2013-11-09 19:31:20 CET
Actually, as of now I don't even have sound anymore...
Comment 4 Nicolas B 2013-11-17 20:17:00 CET
Completely reinstalled beta1, sound was working fine.

Then I had to update kernel to 3.12.0-desktop-3.mga4. Lost all sound again. Tried reinstalling nvidia-current-kernel-desktop but didn't work.

dmesg shows this:

[ 3.722000] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.

Comment 5 Nicolas B 2013-11-17 20:45:43 CET
Tried blacklisting driver nouveau in /etc/modprobe.d, then re-ran XFdrake to select nvidia driver. Rebooted and totally trashed my install. Reinstalling now.

Something wrong is happening when upgrading kernels with the nvidia module which forces nouveau back in.

Completely reinstalled beta1 again, nouveau still overrides nvidia drivers, and no luck with sound (or properly accelerated xorg driver).
Comment 7 Jocelyn Lavoie 2013-11-18 03:02:10 CET
I currently have the same issue as Nicolas B. I've tried everything he has with the same results and as of now nouveau still overrides nvidia drivers. I also have the same dmesg output as him.

My video card is the NVIDIA GTS 450.

With new update as of today, loads the module, then unloads it for some reason and loads nouveau:

Comment 11 Jocelyn Lavoie 2013-11-24 13:10:43 CET
As of the latest update I still have the same issue.
Comment 12 Nicolas B 2013-12-01 21:58:43 CET
Still broken as of latest update.
Comment 13 Nicolas B 2013-12-09 02:17:31 CET
Sound is back after fix from 11693. Will confirm in a week whether intermittent sound is still there or not, but suspect it is fixed.
Comment 14 Nicolas B 2013-12-10 01:46:07 CET
Update: Sound has same behavior as initial post. Over time it will stop working and require a reboot to work.
Comment 15 Nicolas B 2013-12-15 23:43:05 CET
Seems to have fixed itself. No problems for a week now :)
