dockbarx, whose home page is here : http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/DockbarX?content=101604 is a GNOME 2 panel applet that combines taskbar and application launchers. It is the most efficient way I found to use as few panel space as possible while having all the functionalities of taskbar and launchers, and even more : drag and drop to grouped windows is very easy while it does not exist with gnome taskbar, and you can have nice window previews if you use compiz. Some people will say that GNOME 2 belongs to the past. I don't agree ! I think GNOME 3, as it is, is far from being as efficient as GNOME 2 for a professionnal usage and I guess there will be a long time before - if ever - all people switch to GNOME 3.

There is no GNOME 2 in Mageia Cauldron. I'll take this up on the Mageia developers list for a discussion.

There is the mate project here : http://matsusoft.com.ar/projects/mate/index.en.html that tries to keep gnome 2 alive, but I don't know if it's mature enough to be included in Mageia 2.
I know, but I focus on GNOME, not MATE. Not much conclusion yet from mageia-dev. I was just wondering for a policy btw. If there is none, then I'll leave this bug open. I just don't like open bugs in case we know we're never going to package it.
It seems there is no GNOME port for this and it is incompatible with our MATE 1.6 Closing this report as OLD.
