I downloaded Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso from Mirror distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr, then downloaded the corresponding md5.gpg, verified the public key (from pgp.uni-mainz.de) and compared the md5 sums -> failed before I downloaded Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso from mirror unige.ch, also the md5 and sha1 sums as displayed during download failed (no public key verification this time) my hashes are: 9db9e0139ec18fe6e6abd8a4d5a66dfa Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso 2c47ec1ca1a0fcc98e86036c6c889d79 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso the provided hashes are: 9742259c12a9adc32302a955aa956204 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso 6251870baf896c94a521a1407650dd6d Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso could the devs please check the hashes?

I forgot to mention my environment: Asus eepc900, Mandriva 2010.2, Linux 2.6.33.7-desktop586-2mnb #1 SMP i686 i386 GNU/Linux you see, I desperately need a new iso ;-)
It will be several hours before I can check the images on the mirror coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr, but regarding the hashes for those two iso images ... [dave@x3 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD]$ cat *.md5 9742259c12a9adc32302a955aa956204 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso [dave@x3 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD]$ md5sum -c *.md5 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso: OK [dave@x3 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD]$ cat *.md5 6251870baf896c94a521a1407650dd6d Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso [dave@x3 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD]$ md5sum -c *.md5 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso: OK So either there is a problem with the iso images on the mirror, or a problem with the download. I'll download from that mirror to confirm, later.

wow that's fast Dave :) thanks, I know it's not a proof for anything, but the CD booted perfectly from an SD card. I will tomorrow evening try it again on a different laptop with a MGA2 installation, just in case something is no more OK with my good ole netbook
I changed to my laptop and downloaded again from a different mirror: ftp://ftp.linuxcabal.org/pub/mirrors/Mageia/iso/cauldron/Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD/Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso $ md5sum -c Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso.md5 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso: OK $ cat Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso.md5 6251870baf896c94a521a1407650dd6d Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso I will retry with jussieu shortly
I invested another 45 minutes in downloading http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/iso/cauldron/Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD/Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso exactly the same file from the same server as with the eeepc: $ md5sum -c Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso.md5 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso: OK $ cat Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso.md5 9742259c12a9adc32302a955aa956204 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveDVD-KDE4-i586-DVD.iso Must be a problem with my eeepc sorry for the confusion generated and thanks to Dave for his help
Status: NEW => RESOLVEDResolution: (none) => INVALID
I've also confirmed now that the kde live cd is ok on the coffee mirror. [dave@x3 s3]$ cat Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso.md5 6251870baf896c94a521a1407650dd6d Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso [dave@x3 s3]$ md5sum -c Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso.md5 Mageia-4-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso: OK I think it would be best to start with memtest86+ on the eeepc. If that passes, then badblocks. Could be a bad ide/sata cable, or dirty connection. May also help to reseat the ram modules.
you were right with memtest86+, it fails... strange coincidence, i hardly ever check md5 sums of anything and i also never faced corrupt ram (or never spotted any ;-) tried reseating the DIMM, no luck, maybe i should put the eeepc back to collect more dust and play with mga4 on other pcs... have a great evening diego
