Using IceWM it is not possible to poweroff or reboot from IceWM Menu. Selecting one of this items results in closing all GUI applications (xterm, firefox, etc.) but the user is neither logged out nor the system does a poweroff / reboot. The system is using systemd There are some bugs like Bug 4605 (KDE related) Bug 9106 (Xfce related) which are marked as Resolved Fixed and describe similar problems. Running poweroff / reboot from an xterm works fine (after giving the root password of cause). When using XDM IceWM is running on tty2 (STRG+ALT+F2), when using lightdm IceWM is running on tty1 (STRG+ALT+F1), but the problems relating shutdown / reboot are equal. Versions: xdm-1.1.11-8.mga3.i586.rpm lightdm-1.4.1-2.mga3.i586.rpm Possible workaround: First logout from IceWM and select shutdown / reboot from lightdm, or when using XDM (there are no buttons on login screen) use xterm are any other console.

Valid 4alpha3 too with LXDM. No logout, reboot, shutdown etc so stuck in DE.

See similar issues with LXDE in bug 11158 (polkit?)
It works fine with IceWM logged in from KDM. If, when running poweroff/reboot in an xterm it's asking for root password, that usually means that it thinks that there's another user logged in. I saw that happen in Cauldron before Mageia 3, but haven't seen it happen since. It is polkit that now controls poweroff/reboot, but maybe xdm/lightdm aren't doing something they should be.
