Description Ali Rahal 2013-07-22 08:29:56 CEST
Related package :
- NetworkManager
- Shorewall
- Drakx

Package including the bug :
- NetworkManager
- Drakx

Description of problem:
The firewall (shorewall) is not working properly or blocking every thing if a network card with a name length more than 10 or 8 char is present
exemple network card renamed to "realtek_usb_giga" instead of eth1.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
last mageia v3

How reproducible:
Create or rename a network card with NetworkManager

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Rename a network card with NetworkManager to a name length bigger than 10 chars
1. Or simply add a new ethernet connection under NetworkManager it's named "New wired connection" by default (the name could not match because i am translating from french)
3. Activate the firewall with drakx under MCC

Work around to solve the problem :
1. Open mcc (system settings)
2. under network section, hit remove/delete network card
3. delete the network card causing the problem
4. disable the firewall
5. reboot
6. enable the firewall

Fixing the bug :
1. Mageia should modify drakx to take in consideration network cards with long name (just the possibility to warn the user that network card with big length are not possible to add to the firewall)
2. Mageia Drakx should not add network card with big name to shorewall
3. NetworkManager Should not rename real system name but just put an additional name to identify the card.

Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago.
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/

Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
