Description of problem: Due to a bug in phonon-gstreamer 4.6.3, Amarok freezes, as reported at: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302652 The bug affects both Amarok 2.7.0 and 2.7.1 (in updates-testing), as it is a phonon bug rather than Amarok bug. This was mentioned as part of bug #10341 (https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10341), but it is really a different issue. This is apparently fixed at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302652#c35, though no one has confirmed the fix as of this submission. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): phonon-gstreamer 4.6.3 How reproducible: Highly. Not sure if it is 100% of the time though. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Play a mp3 file and then ogg file in succession in Amarok. 2. Watch the ogg file stop at about 2 seconds in. Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:

OK, here is what I discovered: 1. The bug is in fact in gstreamer-plugins-base. 2. Amarok on Mageia 3 links to its 0.10.36 version. 3. There is no newer version of gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10.x (including not with the fix). So what should we do? Should we backport the fix? Regards, -- Shlomi Fish

I hope this NEEDINFO state is not directed at me. If so, as upgrading might bring in a new set of bugs, I'd say backport ;)
Info is probably needed from a KDE packager on what to do about this.

(In reply to Shlomi Fish from comment #2) > So what should we do? Should we backport the fix? > Is this the fix ? if yes I can go ahead and backport it. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-plugins-base/commit/?id=3880323
Well if the bug is in gstreamer-plugins-base we need the ok from the gstreamer-plugins-base maintainer.
Which gstreamer is used on this case ? the maintainer of gstreamer1.0-plugins-base is funda but gstreamer0.10-plugins-base has no maintainer.
(In reply to Juan Luis Baptiste from comment #8) > Which gstreamer is used on this case ? the maintainer of > gstreamer1.0-plugins-base is funda but gstreamer0.10-plugins-base has no > maintainer. Reading from the phonon-gstreamer .spec file: [Q] Requires: gstreamer0.10-plugins-good Requires: gstreamer0.10-plugins-base Requires: gstreamer0.10-cdparanoia Suggests: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg Suggests: gstreamer0.10-soup Suggests: gstreamer0.10-pulse Suggests: gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly [/Q] So it seems like it's gstreamer0.10. Regards, -- Shlomi Fish
Can we get the patch backported? This bug is rendering Amarok quite unusable. Cheers!
Edward, this isn't the only problem in Amarok being caused by phonon-gstreamer in Mageia 3, but phonon-vlc works just fine, so you can switch to that for now.
This bug is not present in Mageia 4.
(In reply to Edward dAuvergne from comment #12) > This bug is not present in Mageia 4. I can no longer reproduce it on Mageia 4 x86-64 either. Amarok works fine in this respect with phonon-gstreamer, and naturally phonon-vlc is still preferable. Should we close this bug? Regards, -- Shlomi Fish
We can close this when Mageia 3 hits EOL if no fix for Mageia 3 surfaces before then.
