Description Christian Lohmaier 2013-07-04 22:02:50 CEST
Description of problem:
removable media is mounted to /run/media/<username>/<filesystemlabel>

this is annoying for terminal users, since tab-completion breaks since there is also /run/msec.pid and /run/mount. So instead of typing /ru<tab><tab><tab> one is stopped at /run/m to pick media.

There still is /media directory created in filesystem package, that according to FHS is "/media : Mount point for removable media" - even in the current draft of it.
It had fixed mountpoints in mind /media/cdrom, /media/floppy... instead of dynamically created stuff, but that is irrelevant, as the dynamic creation of mountpoints is handled nowadays by udev & co.

So as a convenience, I suggest to change the directory /media to a symlink that points to /run/media

That way the mounts will still be done in the tmpfs hierarchy, but tab-completion will not be hindered by additional folders.

And what if someone wants his/her mount point to survive reboot? I'm quite sure that you can create that link yourself and nothing really breaks. But I'm not so sure that this should be the default behavior.

/media is the wrong place for manually/persistent boots, as it is explicitly meant for removable media.

But even if you want your manual mounts in /media, you can easily create a udev rule that will create the directory for you.

Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago.
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/

Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.
