On Mageia 3, when you use dvdrip, it is not possible to extract a picture to set up cropping and resizing. In the log files, you can see that the error is relative to the value sent to ffmeg : ffmpeg -r 25.000 -i - -an -r 1 -ss '0,040' -vframes 1 snapshot%03d.png The value 0,040 is incorrect as a coma "," is used instead of a point ".". 0.040 must be the right one. Without this step, DVD ripping dos not work. To reproduce the bug : 1. extract a DVD before encoding it 2. then go to cropp and zoom and try to get a preview picture => you should get the error message Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
I got the answer about what I suspected : this issue does not occur when the system is installed in UK or US. This is due to locales : the LC_NUMERIC must be en_GB.UTF-8 to get a . (point) and not a , (coma) with ffmpeg. The workaournd I found on my FR installed system, is to edit /etc/sysconfig/i18n and to set LC_NUMERIC to the above value. DVDRip is now working again thanks to this.
