Description of problem: The Broadcom bnx2 driver randomly closes the NIC connection and restarts many times over a 24 hour period. This is a known bug in a specific release of the driver as is shown on the URL I included with this report. This is a serious problem when running a server that provides SAMBA shares to many Microsoft Windows clients. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Mageia 3 on any system with an affected Broadcom NIC. 2. Load the bnx2 driver. 3. After 24 hours check /var/log/messages for these type of entries: # grep bnx2 /var/log/messages| grep "Down\|Up" Jun 13 00:32:26 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 00:32:36 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex Jun 13 01:34:31 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 01:34:40 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex Jun 13 03:02:11 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 03:02:21 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex Jun 13 03:06:06 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 03:06:16 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex Jun 13 04:09:47 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 04:09:57 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex Jun 13 04:57:03 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 04:57:13 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex Jun 13 07:59:44 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 07:59:53 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex Jun 13 09:10:04 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 09:10:14 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex Jun 13 14:50:00 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Down Jun 13 14:50:10 smbserver kernel: bnx2 0000:05:00.0 eth0: NIC Copper Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex How to mitigate this bug until a new kernel can be released: 1.
