I booted beta 2 live I ran Firefox, went to http://blog.mageia.org/fr/ I clicked on #mageia-dev Firefox proposed to open this with Mibbit, I said OK Then mibbit tried to connect, but Freenode said : "Connections via mibbit are no longer supported on freenode. You may wish to consider using http://webchat.freenode.net instead." Too bad live users can't just clic on #mageia-dev and get help.
This is the upstream default, I suggest you file a bug report upstream at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org

See Ahmad's comment. Technically, this is not really an upstream bug for Firefox either. It is the Freenode network in particular that has decided to block mibbit users. I don't think we should break the default action or expect Mozilla to change it just for this particular use case while it works fine for almost all other IRC networks. Perhaps we should consider adding a note warning users of this when linking to our Freenode IRC channels on our official webpages.

fwiw firefox 6 opens a dialog and ask from wich application you want to open the link. It offered me Konversation or mibbit. Tried mibbit and i got the same error, i click on the link (irc://....) again and chose konversation, all went ok using this choice.

Hi Angelo, that's pretty interesting. Do you have multiple IRC clients installed? If so, I wonder if it offers you the choice of those as well, or if it looks at what your preferred IRC client is from the desktop settings and then offers mibbit as the backup option for if no client was set or found?
Remco (comment #4) yes i have more IRC clients installed. But i'm not sure that is the reason, i mean i also have quassel irc (and use it as default client) but ff does not offer it. I think it's more a kde issue... btw in mandriva 2010.2 it offers also an application to select option.
Fair enough, it was just a hypothesis I had :-) I remain of the opinion though that the issue of the original report is something between freenode and mibbit who, for whatever reason, are not getting along well with each other. Thanks for testing this Angelo!
