Description x x 2013-05-30 20:26:56 CEST
Description of problem: X.org is not able to boot with neomagic driver of an IBM Thinkpad 600X Type 26468EG

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

plymouthd: /home/iurt/rpmbuild/BUILD/plymouth-0.8.6.1/scr/libply-splash-core/ply-boot-splash.c :632: ply_boot_splash_update_status: Assertion 'splash->plugin_interface->update_status != ((void *))' failed

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot with Mga 3 failsafe (in the "underground" even starts WLAN and works (wonder)

I'm sorry: I don't have much knowledge to discribe in english language

It was not possible to start the Server with the Vesa driver, only many colors and the question if its ok or not, choise y or n has the same result: dark Moni. Start with reboot (ctrl, alt, del) shows in a second the bootsplash without choises and restarts. Maybe Mga 3 don't support neomagic drivers for older thinkpads anymore? What do I have to do? New install Mga2?

Maybe Mga 3

Reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:

Because of a hint: Redhat has this Problem too

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=905727

    Additional info:
Fixed in git 2 months after 1.2.7 was tagged.
    http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver ... d452204ad1

Is this the same bug?

Can you try and install x11-driver-video-neomagic-1.2.7-4.mga3 from core updates_testing (just built, so it should soon be on mirrors)

if you need to install it from console / terminal, do:

urpmi.update "Core Updates Testing"
urpmi --media "Core Updates Testing" x11-driver-video-neomagic

notification: x11-driver-video-neomagic 1.2.7-3.mga3.i586 is installed x11[....] is installed as a manually marked, ignored by auto-orphan-Funktion
writing /var/lib/rpm/installed-through-deps.list

It was again drakx11 manual console setting offered

With the new booting, the same error message was shown, it was then: Started LSB: checks if a partion is close to full up (as formerly in the Normal booting too). Then nothing else happend.

@ Thierry: Seems like it doesn't work? ;)

You must wait for this new package to hit your favourite mirror.
Yesterday @midnight was too early.
Now it should be fine.

Hi

I've tried it afterwards again and it was installed. Later on it answered, that this package is already installed, unfortunately it does't work. There are 3 possible neomagic driver in drakx11 - no one worked. Any other possibilities? Maybe I did something wrong? Thank u

Comment 12 x x 2013-06-03 03:57:59 CEST
Unfortunately its not working - see handwritten logs - as attachment 4095 [details] - it was not possible to mount a stick and tell grep where to save the output. I used cöours for 0.log and 9.log - but this is not stored here. S the Numbers with [8x] are xorg.0.log and with [395.x] are xorg.9.log.

In the Word MIT-SCREEN-SAVER are the both E in SCREEN red coloured.

I'll probably need to reinstall, because there are so many errors and I'm not a Console crack. Thank u for ur help :-)

After new installation Mga 3: new driver neomagic 1.2.7-4.mga3 dos'nt work definitly and with the vesa driver I had a very interesting experience after reboot: Double Moni.. one double and the same time in it double - see pictures

Here comes the right edge of the screen on the left back *lol* I had to move right away to the left to make something - if the double font would not have been additionally, it would have been easier. The Screen was set to vesa

1/4 of the Screen was free - in spite of 1024x768 24 scaled

The Xserver does'nt start, not as an appendage at boot, too. There is 2 x a kind of bootsplash to see (without choices), no Console behind with Alt F1-4 - the patch does not work with my TP 600x together not even when I try the server with the security mode to start (startx is right?)

This is fixed in version 1.2.8 I have downloaded a source from
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-neomagic/snapshot/xf86-video-neomagic-1.2.8.tar.gz
The newest mga3 rpm package I was able to found is distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/mageia/distrib/3/i586/media/core/updates_testing/x11-driver-video-neomagic-1.2.7-4.mga3.i586.rpm that contains patched version 1.2.7. but this is not working as well though another way than original version without patch.
At the end I have downloaded src.rpm of this, modified spec file and used with 1.2.8.tar.gz to make mga3 rpm that is working flawlessly. Tested on laptop Siemens Scenic Mobile 510 with Neomagic 128XD card. So I think the best you can do to solve this issue is to use just latest version of driver source.

Comment 18 Thierry Vignaud 2014-01-04 12:22:19 CET
Thomas, given that:
- 1.2.8 is known to work
- there were very few commits between 1.2.7 & 1.2.8
- this driver doesn't affect much users

I'm considering just pushing 1.2.8.
WDYT?
Comment 19 Thomas Backlund 2014-01-04 13:55:42 CET
Yes, I think that is the best solution here.
